Can anyone who has in their family tree an entry similar to this,"Aniela Masnica,24 Dec 1861, Załuczne#76, Nowy Targ,Poland" , please tell me where you got this specific information from. I know it is the information commonly found in Roman Catholic Church records in Poland. But I have not found any for this village in this parish earlier than 1890 online. Although I know, of course, they must exist somewhere. I am a direct descendent of the families Masnica, Szymusiak, Biernat, and Czyszczon, so information about any of them would be helpful. thanks, Martin.

Hi Martin,
I looked at this a bit, and I understand why you have some doubt about the source of information for this entry you found for Aniela Masnica. It does not seem credible.
Let's look at this. First off, as you show in the subject line for your question, the village of Załuczne belonged to the church in Odrowąż Podhalański and not to the church in Nowy Targ. I looked on Geneteka, and as you probably know both the birth records and the death records include not only the town of the parish but also the town in which the family lived. Sorting through every entry for every baptism and death indexed for Nowy Targ, there is only one record where someone's place of residence was Załuczne and that was the death in 1919 of Wiktoria Janik (see screenshot, below).
Whose baptism actually was recorded in Nowy Targ, as the 76th baptism in 1861? Marianna Pajerska (see screenshot, below).
OK, so Aniela Masnica, according to the entry you found, was born in December, so maybe she wasn't baptized until 1862. Whose baptism was recorded in Nowy Targ, as the 76th baptism in 1862? Anna Suska (see screenshot, below).
So far, nothing supports this idea of Aniela Masnica being baptized in Nowy Targ and living in Załuczne.
Now, what records are actually available for Załuczne? Here is a link, showing what records are available for what years:
https://parafie.genealodzy.pl/index.php?op=pr&pid=5698
Note that this does not include the year 1861, for births, so it does not seem likely that the person posting that information had obtained a document from the archives or from the church.
If the entry you found for Aniela Masnica had only given her year of birth (and not the month and day) then I might be more generous and say that there is a possibility that the person who wrote that had found either a marriage record for her or a death record for her that gave her age, and from that they deduced that she was born in 1861. However, since they are providing the actual month and day, this seems to be a less likely scenario.
In summary: I don't think this is a valid source citation for the birth date of Aniela Masnica.
On another but related topic, I see you posted on the TYLKA thread:
I was researching my Great Great Grandfather, Martin (Marcin)Masnica. I found a Jan Tylka in a 24 Mar 1909 New York Arrival Passenger List. He listed his home as Załuczne, Austria, Galicia. The person he left back in Załuczne was his wife, Antonina. He was to be met by Marcin Masnica and Jan was going to his address in Chicago, Illinois. Martin was born in the village. Martin later moved to a farm in Sobieski, Oconto, Wisconsin.
I looked at the manifest you mentioned there, and maybe you already were able to decipher it, but if not, the letters in front of Marcin Masnica's name are "acqn" meaning that he was an acquaintance of Jan Tylka, rather than a relative. Just thought you'd like to know that if you didn't already. I hope the person researching Jan Tylka replies to you about what this connection might have been.
Best regards,
Sophia

Hello, Sophia, Thank you for your response. I will be looking into the information you have provided. I have found a number of brith, marriage and death records in the 1890 to 1945 records for Załuczne. For example, the 1894 death of Jan Masnica, the father of Marcin Masnica; and, the 1896 marriage record of Tomasz Waligora and Sabina Masnica. I Knew Uncle Tomasz in the early 1950s. He lived a farm in Sobieski, Wisconsin with my Greatgrandparents, Wincenty Kaleciak and Aniela Masnica. She is a niece of the other Aniela and daughter of Marcin. I also have church records for the family in Chicago and Sobieski. It is very frustrating not to have the earlier records from Załuczne. When I first started my research I had Aunt Aniela born in 1867. Probably neither 1861 or 1867 is correct. I also started with Sabina Masnica as a sister of Marcin. But, it turns out she was the illegitimate daughter of Katarzyna Masnica, who had her baptized as Susana in the Slovakian RC Church in Orava, Slovakia in 1867 which was right across the border from Załuczne and now part of Nowy Targ, Poland. Just to be clear. In "Załuczne#76" the number 76 refers to the house number of the family of Aniela Masnica not the Act number of the baptism. Also, at that time the houses were numbered as they were built. They were not liner. For example, my paternal Grandmother Julia Merak in some of her documents wrote she was from "Gotowizną #35". This meant she had been living in the 35th house built in the village of Gotowizną which was located near what is now Wadowice, Małopolskie. The village has been absorbed into Wadowice. If you used GPS to look for that address you would arrive at the Street Gotowizna. But to get to house 35 you have to go one block over and a block and a half down. You would see that the house across from it is #21. Martin

Hi Martin,
Oddly, I did not receive an email notification to let me know you had replied. Good thing I check on the forum frequently.
Thanks for clarifying that "Załuczne #76" referred to the house number. I misinterpreted it as a citation for the baptism record number for Aniela. Do you have any records at all for Aniela? Do you know what became of her?
Best regards,
Sophia

Hello, Sophia. I do have some records for Aniela: 2 jul 1891 Birth of Józef Lenart in Załuczne. 11 Jan 1893 Death of this Józef. 2 Aug 1893 Birth of a second Józef. 7 Feb 1894 Death of this Józef. 11 May 1896 Birth of Jan in Załuczne. 23 Jan 1898 Birth of Floriana in Załuczne. 6 Aug 1903 Birth and Baptism Record of Anton at the St. Adalbert RC Parish in Chicago. 21 May 1909 Death of Kazimierz Lenart, her husband, in Chicago. It says he was born in 1862. 26 Nov 1909 death Record of Aniela in Chicago. It says she was born in 1867. It also states she was 41-42. 20 Sept 1930 Death Certificate of Dr. Francis Lenart, MD in Chicago. It it says he was born 3 Dec 1884 in Nowy Targ. But, it incorrectly gives Aniela the Birth name of Żołnierczyk which is the married name of her niece Zofia Masnica. I also have a death certificate for Anton but not right at hand. It also gives Aniela the wrong birth name. I imagine since the parents had died there was some confusion about names and dates. There is also a nice picture of Francis when he went back to fight for Poland in WWI. He was a captain in the Polish Army. Like everything in geneology, the family history is evolving. I just wish the Roman Catholic Church would do more to get the records on the web so I could move on. Martin

Hi Martin,
I agree, it would be very useful if additional church records were uploaded. Perhaps with time.
You mentioned Dr. Francis Lenart, and I wonder if you are aware that he served in Haller's Army. There are a few pages of forms related to that on Family Search. I am giving you a link here which should take you to image 321 since that is the most informative page for him, but for the sake of completeness go ahead and page backward to images 318, 319 and 320 as well.
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-CSHC-DQF2?cat=olib%3A1387152&view=explore&lang=en&groupId=TH-909-61482-3442-35
Also, if you have not already done so, you may wish to check out the death claim for the insurance policy Francis held with the PRCUA (Polish Roman Catholic Union of America) as indexed on the PGSA (Polish Genealogical Society of America) website. Here is a link to their general description of those records:
https://pgsa.org/prcua-insurance-claim-file-index/ and be sure to follow their advice to check whether his claim number is listed among the missing records. I'm attaching a screen shot for you to see his claim number.
While obtaining this PRCUA claim file from PGSA does have a cost associated with it, the records can be quite interesting. It all depends on what is in an individual's file. I'm sure some are disappointing, but one which I ordered was well worth it.
You may search among the PGSA website's databases for other names on your family tree. Who knows what you'll find!
Best regards,
Sophia
