We all have some old photos of our Polish ancestors that were sent over from Poland, but we have no idea who they are. Show us your mystery relatives and tell us as much as you can. Who knows - someone might recognize someone or something in your photos!

These were in with my grandmother's photos. Her name was Rosalia Figurska and she was born in 1887 in Lipowiec, near Pokrzydowo. I don't know when the photos were taken. They may not be old enough to be her parents. These people may even be related to my grandfather, Anton Podwojski, who was born in 1880 in Dziengielewo.

What interesting photos! Don't you wish you could go back and time and figure out who they are? Looking at the first photo, I can't decide whether the boy in the middle is missing his left hand, or if he was moving his hand during the exposure.

Movement during a long exposure causes some very interesting "ghosting" where people and body parts appear ghostly or invisible. You can see an example of this at Shorpy.com: http://www.shorpy.com/node/7039?size=_original. For other examples at Shorpy, search the Shorpy site for the word GHOST.

Thank you so much for posting your mystery ancestors! I hope that maybe someone will recognize the people in your photos.

These mystery people were found in the photo album of my great-grandfather's brother, Frank Ferenc. In 1930, Frank Ferenc went to Poland to visit family. Frank had a brother Andrew Ferenc who remained in Poland. I do not know who these people are, but they look affluent and a bit arrogant. I'm not even sure that these are relatives.

I have almost no information about my Ferenc family in Poland, except that my great-grandfather and his brothers were born in Boryslaw and Drohobych. Photos from uncle Frank's trip to Poland suggest that he visited Krakow, Resznow, and Turka.

These are photos of relatives of my grandmother, (Maryanna - Polish) Mary Sokolowski. Her mother Mehalina & father Filipe Sokolowski and their other two daughters, Cecilia & Sofie (who married a Balinski) remained in Poland. Mary's parents lived on a farm near Krakow in the county of Galicia.

Shellie , here are a few more photos of mine , but I do not know who the people are, yet. Wink
I have also included pictures of the reverse of a couple of the photos. I find the advertising to be interesting, and maybe someone else will have photos from the same studios.

Thanks, it was fun to look at the photos even though I knew I would not recognize anyone.

I have two photos of this family, exactly alike, found with my mother's estate and I am showing the front of one and the back of the other. I have no idea who these people are. What is the name written on the back?
