Post subject: Places near Posen City
I have been chasing information in Poland on a Polish (or Prussian) forbear of mine who emigrated to Australia in the 1850's. He says he was born in Posen City. I recently obtained a copy of the birth certificate of one of his children where the father's birth place is given as what could be Vasel or possibly Pasel. On the other hand it could just be a mis-rendering of Posen. I have done some preliminary research to no avail. I assume the place (should it exist) would be near what he refers to as Posen City.
Can anyone shed any light on this riddle?

Here is a link to the Poznan Project website.

On this page, about 1/2 of the way down under "Extended Search" he lists the different districts and their translated names in German. Perhaps that could be of help! _________________ "A family tree can wither
