Post subject: Perz /John
I'm hoping for some help on where to go next. I found all U.S. info on my great gr-father. The naturalization papers claim his last residence was Bremen ,Germany. He left Bremen on the ship Fulda. All other records say he was born in German Poland or Prussia . In order to go further I need a town of origin, is there record in Bremen that would have that info???

Hi,
"Unfortunately, all lists from 1875 - 1908 older than 3 years were destroyed due to lack of space in the Bremen Archives." See more in http://www.passengerlists.de/

Post subject: Perz - Perzyk??
Hi rinny11,
While on a little search for Perz, I ran into some old posts of yours. I do see that you have tried everything I would have thought of, including trying to find the information for the brothers that were mentioned in John's obit. I also tried to look for a Jacob and Lawrence Perz living in Detroit. I didn't find them, however, I did find both a Jacob and Lawrence Perzyk. Could your great grandfather have shortened his name? Jacob and Lawrence Perzyk both seem to have the same birthplace information as your John - in 1910 it said they were born in Germany, in 1920 in Poland (of course as the borders changed). It always said they were Polish. If you don't have access to the census, I could send you the images I saw from Heritage Quest. Also, Family Search has some of the information. There was conflicting immigration years for Jacob, I saw 1885 and 1889. For Lawrence I saw 1893, and maybe another year that I couldn't make out. I'm still not sure that Perzyk was the original spelliing of the name. I saw some Perszyk and Perczyk at Ellis Island, but I don't think any Perzyk. Castle Garden might have had a couple with the Perzyk spelling. Maybe they came through the same port as John?
Best of luck, and don't hesitate to ask again, as someone more knowledgeable than I may be able to help.
Cheri

Post subject: Lawrence and James/Jacob Perz
I now see that you were looking for James and Lawrence Perz. I really thought it was Jacob not James. For what it's worth, Jacob AND James are the equivalent of the Polish first name Jakub, see at PolandGenWeb:

I have a question, if John resided in Bremen long enough to earn money for the travel to America, would there be a record of his residence or would he have to register as a Polish residence living in Germany??
