I am looking for the meaning of the surname Gaborski - as well as any ancestoral information that can be found (where I would find it). Thank you.

Welcome to the Forum DenGar,

Gabor-; is a Hungarian first name (from Hebrew 'Gabriel' "man of God").

Gabor is also one of coats of arms about which you can read more here: http://www.4crests.com/gabor-coat-of-arms.html and here: http://www.houseofnames.com/xq/asp.fc/qx/gabor-family-crest.htm . You can also find a little more about coats of arms in Poland and about -ski endings in Polish surnames in the article How Surnames Came Into Being in Poland

In 2002 there were 176 people by the surname Gaborski living in Poland and most lived in Częstochowa (19), Piotrków Trybunalski (17) and in Jasło (15) areas.
There were also 2155 persons by the name Gabor.

Zenon, Do you mean 176 with the surname, and 2155 people with the first name of Gabor? If not, what is the difference between these two numbers?

I mean 176 with the surname Gaborski and 2155 with the surname Gabor. Sorry for the confusion.

Gabor is a Hungarian first name. We do not use it in Poland as a first name. Polish (and as far as I know English) euqivalent of Hungarian Gabor is Gabriel.

Zenon, thanks for the clarification. I realized what you meant after I had logged off and shut off the computer.
