Post subject: Three interesting books
I have just read two books by Martin Pollack: "Galizien - Eine Reise durch die verschwundene Welt Ostgaliziens und der Bukowina" [loosely translated: "A trip through the lost world of East Galicia and the Bukowina"] that describes the life in former East Galicia and mentions places like Tarnow, Przemysl, Drohobycz, Sambor, Nahujewytsch, Stryj, Stanislau, Zabie, Kolomea, Czernowitz, Sadagora, Brody, Lemberg, etc., partly with some old pictures. The book was published 2001, only in German so far.
The second book by Martin Pollack is entitled "Kaiser von Amerika - Die große Flucht aus Galizien" [loosely translated: "Emperor of America: The great flight from Galicia"] that appeared in 2010, also in German. It has been translated into Polish ["Cesarz Ameryki Wielka ucieczka z Galicji"], but unfortunately not into English.
The two books were very interesting, and I really hope that an English edition of the first two books will come out soon, since they would be of particular interest to those who have ancestors in former Galicia.
Here is a little more information on the author Martin Pollack:

A third book that I read last year is by Bruno Schulz, a Polish-Jewish writer, born 1892 in Drohobycz. It was published in Polish in 1934 under the title "Sklepy cynamonowe", translated into English in 1963, and appeared under the English title "The Street of Crocodiles" in 1934:

A new translation appeared in Polish in 1998 under the title "Opowiadania, wybor esejow i listow". I have the German edition entitled "Die Zimtläden" (lit. "The Cinnamon Shops"). It's a collection of short stories of a mystical childhood world in Drohobycz with autobiographical elements.
