I just ran across the naturalization record of a distant relative whose 1940 naturalization record says "Country of Birth or Allegiance: USA-Poland", "Repatriated". She was born in the United States, had lost her US citizenship by marriage to a Polish immigrant, and repatriated herself in 1940. It was the first time that I had seen such a record, so I searched for further information on the subject and found an interesting article that I thought might be interesting to share here. This is just an excerpt:

"Just as alien women gained U.S. citizenship by marriage, U.S.-born women often gained foreign nationality (and thereby lost their U.S. citizenship) by marriage to a foreigner. As the law increasingly linked women's citizenship to that of their husbands, the courts frequently found that U.S. citizen women expatriated themselves by marriage to an alien. ..."
