Post subject: Zbydniewski Family in Poland
I'm trying to trace my grandmother's family in Poland. Her name is Anna Zbydniewski and she might have lived in Tarnobrzeg. She had brothers named Adam, Andrezej and Franciszek. Her mother may have been Jozefa Ryba. If you are related or know anyone who is, please let me know.
Thanks.

26 Zbyniewski in Poland, according to 1990 Census. 21 of them living in what was then tarnobrzeskie province.
4 Zbydniewski and 4 Zbydniewska in Nasza Klasa, a polish social network, all in Sandomierz, close to Tarnobrzeg.
Some Zbydniewski in Geneteka (a database of indexes) and tons of Ryba. (file attached)
I am not related to these surnames.

You are welcome. There is a Anna Zbiedniawski arriving at EI on Nov 10, 1908. Departured from Rotterdam on Oct 31, ship Noordam.
She had a brother in Cleveland, J. Zbiedniawski. Her father, in Poland, is listed as Fr. which I assume stands for Franciszek.
She was 20 y.o., therefore born about 1888, which is close to the birth date you have.
A Jozef Zbydniowski and a Adam Zbydniawski came before her (1903 and 1907), from the same place, and going to the same destination.
Their birthplaces are Chwalowice, which is located ten miles NE of Sandomierz.

Wow, you're good! I've searched on Ellis Island website so many times without success. I can't even decipher the writing very well. How do you do it? I have a family tree on ancestry.com. I'll go and check with the new spellings. I know Adam came to the US but I didn't know anything about a Jozef. Adam's daughter lives in LA but I think she mixed up some details.
Thanks a million.

I always search people using stevemorse.org Gold Form, which is a fantastic search engine. Misspellings may have occurred at two occasions: when ship manifests were filled accordingly to what was heard (that would explain Zbid, rather than Zbyd) and when volunteers transcribed what they could read (niawski and niowski, rather than niewski). I believe that among the mixed up things is the name of Franciszek: he certainly was Anna's father and not Anna's brother.
Last nigh I checked LDS microfilms for the place and could not find any. I found the parish, but it was built in 1945 or so, therefore it wouldn't help locating records. I have also checked the State Archives in Sandomierz ([email protected]), but they state they do not cover this area (which is located right on the border of two powiats and two provinces). Maybe records for the place are kept in State Archives in Lublin, Krasnki branch. [email protected]

Post subject: Chawalowice
Here is what I found on Wikipedia about the town. Would that help in finding the right archive?
Chwałowice [xfawɔˈvit͡sɛ] is a village in the administrative district of Gmina Radomyśl nad Sanem, within Stalowa Wola County, Subcarpathian Voivodeship, in south-eastern Poland.
In my family records, it was in Podkarpackie Voivodeship.
According to my second cousin, the family got its name from the town they were from originally, Zbydniow, after the war for bravery. She didn't know which war.
Thanks so much for your help.

In my opinion, the fastest and best way to find the right archive would be sending a letter to the USC (Urzad Stanu Cywilnego = Civil Register Office). Though they hold records from 1910 on only, they certainly know which archive holds older records.
Urząd Stanu Cywilnego - Radomyśl
37-455 Radomyśl
Adres: Rynek Duży 7
Telefon:15 84 54 342
Fax: 15 84 54 328
Email:usc[at]radomysl.pl
In case they do not answer, then I would try those email addresses for AP Kielce/Sandomierz and AP Lublin/Krasnik.
Your second cousin is totally right about the origin of your surname. Geneteka database, which is transcribed by polish volunteers, from polish books, presents spellings as Zbyd... and Zbid... and also endings as -niawski, -niewski and -niowski. All of them in places around Sandomierz (Gozlice, Klimontow, Koprzywnica) . Unfortunately, no Geneteka member is looking for this surname.
Webpage for Gmina Radomysl in http://www.radomysl.pl/asp/pl_start.asp?typ=13&sub=1&menu=2&strona=1
RC Church in Chwalowice in http://www.sandomierz.opoka.org.pl/strdiec/parafie.php?p=26&d=2
If I were you I would try to reach those Zbydniewsk found in Nasza Klasa. With such a rare surname, high are the chances your old folks had a common ancestor.
