Post subject: Malczyk from Podlaskie, Poland
Hello
My surname is "Malczyk" I have been able (with the assistance of very kind volunteers) as well as a distant cousin who translatd records so that I could trace my genealogy to my 5x Great-Grandfather "Ignacy Malczyk" B. abt 1764-1835 Nowa Ruda, Podlaskie, Poland.
I know that the spelling of "Malczyk" has remained consistent based on the Turośl Parish records.
But I wondered why it became so hard to trace much further than the mid 1700s. My cousin informed me that the surname "Malczyk" may come from a diminutive of Małż and eventually it became Malc/Malczyk as Małż was in territory just a few parishes west of Kolno and Turosl ( Myszyniec and Zalas) had fire damage apparently and some of their older records may have connected the Małż surname to Malczyk. Does anyone know more about this or have suggestions on digging further beyond Turosl for records prior to mid 1700s.
