Post subject: Looking for Rakowsky and Kulisch
My paternal grandparents Josef Rakowski born about 1876 in Kotowa, Podlaskie, Poland and My grandmother Agnes Kulisch, born about 1882 in Purins, Poland. I cannot find any information regarding where in Poland these areas are. I would like to trace my roots back farther than my grandparents.

I found Agnes in a ship manifest (image attached). What you read as Purins in your source, seemed at first Jurime to my eyes. Then I tried some spellings and found out Furmany, about 5 miles west from Kotowa.

The manifest from Josef said he came from Kotowa. Could it be possible they both knew each other before they came over here? How would I find out more information about them? Yes I read her manifest but your right the handwriting is difficult. But not knowing spellings of cities/villages in Poland it is had to play around with words. You have been such a big help.

I could not find LDS films for these places. You may want to ask the State Archives in Sandomierz to see if they have records (I believe the parish was Gorzyce, not sure).
