Balczuk, birchess or bulchie are names that I found on one side
Bernosky is another
Samulanis
And Pukiewicz
I’m looking for any of these names or original spellings, and town origins. I’ve been able to trace back until they came to America which was early 1900’s they all apparently came from Poland or Lithuania, I’m stumped and I think the spelling has changed from typos from when they arrived. any info is helpful at all Thankyou.

Hello Dza,

In Geneteka you can find records where mentioned surnames appear (almost all in the form you provided):
Balczuk: https://geneszukacz.genealodzy.pl/index.php?search_lastname=balczuk&from_date=&to_date=&rpp1=&bdm=&url1=&w=&lang=pol&op=se
Bernosky: https://geneszukacz.genealodzy.pl/index.php?search_lastname=bernoski&from_date=&to_date=&rpp1=&bdm=&url1=&w=&lang=pol&op=se
Samulanis: https://geneszukacz.genealodzy.pl/index.php?search_lastname=samulanis&from_date=&to_date=&rpp1=&bdm=&url1=&w=&lang=pol&op=se
Pukiewicz: https://geneszukacz.genealodzy.pl/index.php?search_lastname=pukiewicz&from_date=&to_date=&rpp1=&bdm=&url1=&w=&lang=pol&op=se

Indeed people bearing these surnames lived in Lithuania mostly (except Bernosky and its variations - it is surname popular in Poland as well).

As for the origin of surnames: only Bernowski surname is described in the "Hoffman's Polish surnames" (it can confirm that others have Lithuanian origin). It comes from given name Bernard, noted in Poland from the 12th century. There are several variations of this surname: Biernowski, Bernacki, Biernacki.
Detailed map of the surname distribution can be found here: https://nazwiska-polskie.pl/Bernowski
