I just finished reading this book and I thought it was very good. I have often wondered what it was like for my Polish great grandparents and their children to travel across Poland by train to a port in Germany. Then to board a ship and travel for perhaps a month, likely in steerage class, before arriving in the United States. All the time without being able to understand the various foreign languages.

This book is based on family stories handed down for several generations.

It gave me a better perspective on what my ancestors might have experienced in their journey to America.

Thank you Gary for pointing us the book.

Probably many of you already saw this 10-minutes video about hardship of emigration "Krakow - Hamburg - New York". For those who overlooked it in our Photo & Video Albums section: http://polishorigins.com/document/photo here is direct link to video file which you can download to your computer or other device and watch: http://polishorigins.com/public/pictures/krakow_hamburg_america.asf .

I have read this book...since I liked it so much it is being passed around among my cousins.
Another book that some may find of interest is "The Zookeepers Wife", very interesting story about how Poles assisted the Jewish people in their community and the unique aspects of a zoo that made it a great place to do this.

To the young man who put together the My Tribute to Poland videos in the History Video section of the Polish Pride and Heritage are.....a great job!!! I enjoyed viewing them, it certainly displayed the country in its best light. I think I would enjoy the countryside very much. My grandparents came from the SE of Poland between Jaslo and Krosno. If you could identify some pictures that came from that area I would love to see them.

Thumbs up on the "Zoo Keeper's Wife" I loved it. It is so full of humanity when the world was inhumane.
