Does anyone know how houses were numbered in 19th century Poland? Were they numbered according to order of construction, i.e. the first house built in a village being called #1, the 2nd house #2, etc.? Or was house #1 the first house seen upon entering a village? Or as most houses are numbered now, according to the order of houses on a designated street?

And were there never more than one house #5's in a single village back then? And when might they have changed to a more modern numbering system? Compared to nowadays where they might have several house #5's in a village, depending upon which street they're on?
