I have been researching my maternal Uckiewicz family of Suwalk Guberneei, Russian Poland. This is my first request for information. I
am much impressed with the knowledge of the contributors to this site. I hope as I become more familiar with it, I will be able to contribute some answers, as well as asking for help.

My research started with the original retirement document of my great grandfather, Jozef Uckiewicz b. abt 1806, Suwalkee Gubernee, Russian Poland. Jozef was a teacher whose retirement document listed precious information regarding this branch of my family. It listed all pertinent names and dates for all members of his family, including each town in which he taught and the salary paid.

Family lore included stories that the Uckiewicz family was one of some prominence in their time and place. These were treated as elaborations of realitity that grew as the recollections took on more and more grandeur. However, as i dug into genealogy over the years some light has been shed on that kernel of truth that lies in most stories. I came across the following information on Wielka Genealogia
Minakowskiego:

Wanda Ludwika bar. Bystram z. Radlina h. Tarnawa (ID:ut 48.3.39) b. 26 II 1871, Warszawa, d. 5 VII 1949, Plonsk, age 78

This information matches other information I have regarding the Uckiewicz family. (Additional information In Wielka Genealogia Minakowskiego indicates that Wanda Weronika Uckiewicz is the mother of Wanda Ludwika. Also other sources confirm dates of birth and death.)

While my Polish is adequate for some translation, it is totally inadequate to understand what the above information means. I would appreciate any help in interpreting the above as the Minakowskiego site has few clues that are helpful for someone like myself. Thank you in advance for considering my request.

Hi Dorothy,

bar. Bystram z Radlina h. Tarnawa writes:
baron Bystram z Radlina, herbu Tarnawa

herb (herbu) is arms

baron Bystram from Radlin, arms Tarnawa

You can have some arms here: http://www.wladcy.myslenice.net.pl/Polska/zalaczniki/herb%20Tarnawa.htm

Bystram herbu Tarnawa seems to be a nobility.
Baron is a title.

Radlin is a place, this page is of interest - http://chodel.gmina.pl/radlin_p_1171.html

Thank you, Elzbieta,
for your quick reply to my request.  It is a step toward making sense of this information I posted.  I'm sure there is much more research before I am able to tie the pieces together.  But that is  always the way with genealogy:  one piece of information leads to ten more questions.  I still need to continue looking for further information regarding how Wanda Ludwika Majchrzycka was related to baron Bystram/Bistram. This is a very interesting branch of my family.  I will be posting another question soon, as I am inching my way toward a better understanding of this family.
Thank you for your input.  It is greatly appreciated.
