Topólcza, Zwierzyniec community
On November 19th, 1942, Gestapo officers from Szczebrzeszyn came for the first time to our village and they killed 3 girls in their own house.
Their surname was Świstek: Maria, 15 years old, Janina 12 years old and the youngest, I can't remember her name, who was 7 years old. They lived alone, because their mother was already late and their father died in the castle in Lublin. The very same day I and my other 7 neighbours we were busy repairing the road.
Thse same Gestapo officers came to us and arrested us all and later they arrested two more people and they took us to Zwierzyniec to the commune arrest.
The next day the Germans brought 30 more people there. Ten people from each of three villages: Zaburze, Wywłoczka and Jędrzejówka, the country of Biłgoraj.
After 3 days they put us on the train and we went to Majdanek.
During our stay in Zwierzyniec, we did not receive food or water for 3 days. The detention center was so small that we couldn't move, we were so crammed in.
We were released on February 26th 1943.
Of the 40 people arrested, 8 returned home. 32 people were burned in the crematorium.

In November 1942 the Gestapo Officers from Szczebrzeszyn came to our village and shot Antoni Szydełko and Leonard Szydełko in the yeard. On that day, in Szczebrzeszyn, they also met Jan Szydełko and killed him right away. I do not know why they had been killed. These were good people and they were polish. The same year and month the Gestapo Officers from Zwierzyniec arrested Jan Świstek and they shot him during transport. I know that he was not trying to escape. They ordered him to stand up and shot him in the back of the head.
On February 23rd, 1943, the military policemen from Zwierzyniec came to Jan Panas. First they ordered him to make a food and then they took him, his wife Maria, a 20 years old son Roman, a 16 years old daughter, whose name I can not remember, Michał Panas, Michał Witoszka and they took tchem near the barn and ordered tchem to lie down on the ground ans shot they in the back of the head.
I also remember that during the winter time, in 1944, the Germans brought by car 9 arrested polish people, tied with barbed wire and took tchem out of the car, in public, in threes, and shot they with machine gun salvos, in a pasture in Topólcza. They ordered these people to be buried immediately in the pasture.
The Germans forced all village citizens to see it and they read the note, in polish, that the same awaits everyone if they do not obey the German authorities.
On July 3rd, 1944, during the action prepared by the Germans against the partisants, they arrested all men from our village and they took tchem to Zwierzyniec, where everyone was identified. 5 or 7 men from our village were detained and the rest was released. Those who were detained were taked to Majdanek.
This testimony was made by the farmer, Roman Ruski, June 27th, 1946. The case number I 221/46.
