Hi Marcel,

Could you please translate this marriage (#37) from Suwalki? I am particularly interested in whether Rozalia Jankowska’s parents are noted as still living or not.

Thank-You!

Hi,
I tried to find something about Tomasz Jankowski and Róża (Rozalia) nee Kołzan (Kowzan, Kouzan). This attached wedding record does not answer your question.
My findings are based on "Genetyka" and "Szukaj w archiwach". I guess something is familiar to you.
Tomasz and Rozalia had at least 4 children:
Franciszka born 1809 (she was the youngest)
Rozalia born abt. 1807
Jędrzej (Andrzej) born abt. 1805
Pawel born abt. 1801
I have read the wedding records of the 4 children. In two cases, the information is that they live with their parents. It confirms that both lived in 1827 and 1828. In 1828 they were abt. 63 and 58 years old.
I found a wedding record which looks interesting. On February 2nd, 1835 Tomasz Jankowski, widower, 70 years old marries widow Anna Mikielska nee Szczesna. In this record it is stated that he was the son of Bartlomiej and Marianna.
I also found the death record of Tomasz which states that he died on Juny 3rd, 1841, and that he is survived by his wife Anna nee Szczesna.
If this is your Tomasz, which I believe, then Rozalia died between 1828-1835. Unfortunately I was unable to find her death record.
Hope that was some new information.

Regards,
-Barb

It was not specified in this act whether the newlyweds' parents were living or not:

Nr 37
Suwałki

It happened in Suwałki, on July 2nd, 1843, at 5 p.m.
We make it known that in the presence of the witnesses, Wacław Wiśniewski, 33 years old and Józef Żukowski, 40 years old, both farmers living in Suwałki, a religious marriage was concluded on this day,by the priest Gabriel Dziekański, the vicar of the Suwałki parish, between:

Wacław Żukowski, a widower after the late Agata, who died in February of the current year, 55 years old, a son of the spouses: Franciszek and Agata nee Burzycka, who was born and lives in Suwałki, a night-watchman

and

Rozalia Wilczewska, a widow after the late Józef, who died 8 years ago, 36 years old, a daughter of the spouses: Tomasz Jankowski and Rozalia Jankowska, who was born in Stara Hańcza and lives in Suwałki, a daylaborer.

This marriage was preceded by the three banns of marriage, announced on April 23rd, April 30th and May 7th of the current year in the parish church in Suwałki.

There were no objections for this marriage.

The newlyweds declared they did not enter into the prenuptial agreement.

This act was read to the present and it was signed by Us and of the witnesses, the others, mentioned in this act, were illiterate.

The parish-priest of Suwałki, Makowski,
W. Wiśniewski.

Very helpful and appreciated, Marcel! I just posted another marriage translation request in the Russian translation thread, should you be available to do the translation when you get a chance.

Thank-You, SO much for the help and thoughtful input! I am just starting to try to work out the timeline and was thinking burial records and not a remarriage at the age of 70 (which I couldn't tell without your assistance). Something interesting to pursue further to see if there might be a connection.

I have the same four children so far and their marriage records + Franciszka‘s birth record. They lived in Kłajpeda and then Stołupianka. I have not seen them in Dzierwany before but it is close (4km?) and there seems to be a possible connection (Pawel’s son md a Mikielska).

My ancestor is Jedrezj\Andrezj.

Your insight is appreciated.

Sincerely, jajan
