Post subject: Meaning of Year Annotation in Index

9. Bogal, Anna 1880
10. Bogal. Marianna 1882
The birth record is 1885, Sokolina Kielce Parish
A number of the names on the record have been annotated with a year, for example, the two names above.
What is the meaning of the annotation?

Hi,
A guess: might they indicate a year of birth, for a delayed baptism?
The year of these records is 1885, but the year notations you refer to all pre-date that year.
You might ask Marcel more directly, in the Russian records translation thread.

Sophia,
You were right. These dates refer to the year of birth. There was no information in these records why the entries were delayed. _________________ My translations are voluntary, but they take a lot of time and effort, so whenever you want to send money it will be a very nice "Thank you" gift to me.
THANK YOU

The handwriting is hard for me to read. I presume the priest understood that the births occurred shortly before baptism, the date of the record. This is usually within a few days. Subsequently, in time of the preparation of the index , he was informed that seven birth dates were wrong and added the correct year to the index. Odd.
Thank you looking into it.

Hi Henryk,
I cannot read Russian. However, based on what I see in the index, I interpret the situation differently than you do. These were delayed baptisms, which were done in 1885. In the case you cite, Anna Bogal, who was born in 1880, was either 4 or 5 years old when she was baptized, and Marianna Bogal, who was born in 1882, was either 2 or 3 years old when she was baptized. They were probably baptized together, on the very same day in 1885.

I have read the baptism records indicated here and they inform the baptism happened in the year when the children were born. The entries were delayed but there is no information why. _________________ My translations are voluntary, but they take a lot of time and effort, so whenever you want to send money it will be a very nice "Thank you" gift to me.

OK, Henryk, I was incorrect with my interpretation. It is an interesting situation that you found. Thanks for sharing it.
