Hello,

Having trouble determining between two people as a possible ancestor. A number of you helped me before track members of the Surname Bala to Zyrakow/Zerakow (comes up as both). The help was invaluable. I've run into a problem where there is a family that had 6 children, two of those children named their child Jan Bala and they were born 1847 and 1849. Ancestry and MyHeritage recommeds one over the other, but I am still not certain. Does house number have relevance to which one could be the true ancestor. Its easier if I write it out below:

Confirmed Line:
Matt Bala/James Bala/Henry Bala - Buffalo, NY
Jozef Bala - Born 1879 in Zyrakow, Poland, Died in Buffalo, NY
Jan Bala (either 1847 or 1849) + Jadwiga Jasinska
Unknown Father Bala
Wojciech Bala + Zofia Sudjak

WOJCIECH'S CHILDREN:
Szczepan Bala (1822) - Joannes Bala (25 Apr 1847) with wife Marianna in Zerakow (no house listed)

Maciej Bala (1825) - Joannes Bala (27 May 1849) with wife Theresa Kurek in Zerakow House 13.

Now, the Jozef Bala I know to be in our line was born 5 Jul 1879 to Jan and Jadwiga Bala in Zerakow House 12.

As travel was limited during the time period compared to modern day, is it reasonable to assume they lived in residences or buildings in proximity to one another? The MACIEJ Bala line is the one that is recommended by various ancestry sites to be in the tree. But unless they know something I don't, I'm unsure how to tell which brother's Jan is our ancestor.

I should mention the marriage record is not on geneteka.pl. Jan married Jadwiga between 1873 and 1876, which I believe are the only marriage records not yet made electronic for their parish. I wrote a letter to Stracezin Parish and sent it a week ago inquiring about marriage records that may not be electronic yet.

Thank you for any help. As mentioned before, the help you provided before led me to be able to get this far back.

Matt Bala

Hallo Matt,
Yes, of course the house number has something to say. Jozef (1879) was born in house no. 12. His mother Jadwiga (Hedvigis) nee Jasinska also died in house no. 12. Jan and Jadwiga lived in house no. 12, but this does not mean that Jan was born there.
You say that the choice is between:
Jan born in 1847 son of Szczepan and Marianna
and
Jan born in 1849 son of Maciej and Teresa
Then the answer is very simple.
It is Jan born in 1849, because Jan born in 1847 died a month after he was born
