You're the best, Barb! Thank you so much.

I'm going to try not to get ahead of myself, but I wonder if this illegitimate daughter of Anna Blahuta, Maryna, is the one I'm looking for. If so, I wonder why the father wasn't present. Something I found interesting: Maryna has the exact same godparents as an illegitimate "Salabanka" child that I found in Chodnowice. Hmm.

Hi,
There was/is no obligation to give the father's name. Sometimes the father of the child already had the family, or the mother was unsure who the father of the child was....
As for godparents at baptism, note that in small communities the same persons stood up for each other.
Yes, it is possible that Marianna, the daughter of Katarzyna, is the person you are looking for.

-Barb
! You doubled Pelagia's link.

Ugh, thank you for letting me know about Pelagia's record. I'm so bad at this. I've attached Maryna's below, as well as one for a Joannes Tychonski born in a house 25 (though it's unclear to me if he was born in Popowice or Cykow). If this Maryna is my ancestor, then I think Joannes would likely be the father. Joannes was married to a Catharina Pokladek, but they were married on 10 Nov 1862 and their first child together wasn't born until 1864, so it's possible he could've had some type of relationship with this Anna Blahuta before. On Maryna's page, you can also see a couple other entries for children born to Anna Blahuta's siblings (including another illegimate child, Erasmus)
