Hello everyone,

I'm looking for advice and experiences regarding the restoration of Polish citizenship. My father left Poland in the 1930s and subsequently lost his Polish citizenship by serving in a foreign army before 1951.

From what I've gathered, he might be eligible to apply for restoration of Polish citizenship under the following conditions provided by the Polish consulate:

The loss of citizenship must have occurred before 1 January 1999 under specific articles of the 1920, 1951, or 1962 citizenship acts.

He should not have voluntarily joined the military service of the Axis countries or their allies between 1 September 1939 and 8 May 1945, held public office in these countries, or acted against Poland’s independence and sovereignty or participated in human rights violations.

Given that his service in a non axis country’s army occurred in 1949, we believe he may qualify.

Has anyone gone through a similar process or have any insights on what to expect? What kind of documentation is necessary, and are there any tips for navigating the application process?

Thank you in advance for your help!
