My Grandfather Alexander Andrew Kuczynski was born in Poland in 1889.
Immigrated to the USA in 1907 and married in Kenosha, Wisconsin in 1910.
Naturalization in 1925.
I have a copy of his birth/marriage certificate.
I can see his parents as-
Mikołaj (Nicholas) Kuczynski
Marianne Kozłowska
Vilna Gubernia, Russian Empire (Could that be in present day Belarus?)
Marianne's parents as
Jan and Elżbieta Kozłowska
I believe Jan and Elżbieta also had a son Andrzej and a sister Martha Michalewicz (nee Kozłowski)
I have DNA matches with their descendants.
Andrzej's daughter was in my parents xmas list. My father said they were cousins.
I have been searching with every available tool available and am now asking for help.
I would like to know where they are from.

Hi,

The birth & baptism certificate of your grandfather provides the best info about where he was born & baptized. He was baptized in Udział, which following the Partitions of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth was directly incorporated into the Russian Empire. During the period from 1918 until 1939 it was part of the Second Polish Republic. Currently Udział indeed is in Belarus and the place is known as Udelo. The church where he was baptized is the Roman Catholic Church of the Immaculate Conception of the BVM (Polish: Kościół Niepokalanego Poczęcia Najświętszej Maryi Panny w Udziale) and currently is known as Khram Neporochnogo Zachatiya Presvyatoy Devy Marii. Here is the contact info:
Address: Набярэжная 2, Udelo 211806, Belarus; Phone: +375-2156 31-516.

Since I didn’t get any hits on Genetyka for your grandfather in Belarus it would appear that a possible way forward would be to contact the parish or perhaps someone familiar with doing research in Belarus can give you better advice.

Attached are pics of the exterior and the interior
of the church building. The cornerstone of the existing structure was laid in 1777.

Wishing you success in your research,

Dave

Hi,

Aleksander Kuczyński was born November 17, 1889 in folwark* Miłopole commune of Wierzchnia. He was baptized on the same day in the Catholic church in Udział.

*folwark is a Polish word for a primarily serfdom-based farm and agricultural enterprise, often very large
Wierznia (Belarusian Verkhnee)
Udział (Belarusian Udelo)
I do not believe that folwark Miłopole exists today.
Unfortunately I found no resources online from that time. Try to contact the parish Udział. I see that Dave attached the address and phone number.

Hi,

A good way to understand a folwark, which Barb explained, is that it was a manorial farm. Those who lived there worked the farm for the owner of the manor who was a Noble (Szlachta). Here is a link to the entry for Miłopole in the Słownik geograficzny, the go to source for info about 19th Century places in Partitioned Poland. The entry is not long but it continues on the following page.

Here is the link to the info about Udział: http://dir.icm.edu.pl/pl/Slownik_geograficzny/Tom_XII/746

The church is beautiful! Thank you for the information on a folwark. I will study that on Wikipedia. Now I have a lead to search in Belarus. Grandpa Kuczenski was a hard worker all his life! You were very kind to respond to my questions.
Best Regards,
Jean Kuczenski Nevoraski
