Hello all,

I've been trying for a few years now to find anything online about my Polish/German grandfather's family.

The only things I really know are my grandfather's name, Theodor(e) Rast, who was born in around 1927, that his parents were called Eduard and Wanda, and that he had several brothers, only one of whom I've been able to track down, but he unfortunately died a few years before I found him. They lived in a small village called Anajewo in Mazowieckie, which they fled from during the war. Any attempts to find any online records relating to these specific people have so far failed, and the village no longer exists.

I have found some records for other Rasts in the area, and while they are probably related to my grandfather's family, I can't connect the dots due to the lack of information. Not being able to speak any Polish or German hasn't helped matters!

I'm looking for any assistance on where and how to look for more information - my Polish friends have tried to help by contacting various places around the Plock area but so far haven't found anything.

Any help would be appreciated!

Hello,
You don't know much about your grandparents. Very little is available online. Village Anajewo is located in Gostynin County, Masovian Voivodeship, Poland. There is no church in Anajewo. A short distance from the village there are 3 parishes: Nowy Duninow, Solec and Gostynin (St. Martin parish).
Do you have any documents you can share with us? Your grandfather's marriage record. Do you have it? What was Wanda's maiden name, what do you know about your grandfather's brother or other siblings (names)?

Best regards,
-Barb

Hi Barb,

Thanks for the reply, and apologies for my late one.

The main problem I have is that I don't know much at all, including any records. The only record I have for my grandfather is his death registry entry, he died here in Scotland and it doesn't tell me anything. I really wish I knew Wanda's maiden name, as it might have been easier to track her down. I'm led to believe that she ended up in Bremen and died there in possibly the 1960s, but that is only a rumour I've heard.

I've been told that the brothers were called Alfred, Edmund, Edward, Ewald, Gustav, and Reinholdt. I only know where Edward ended up - in Vancouver, Canada - but he passed away a few years ago. Edward's wife has been helpful, it was she who gave me these names, but she doesn't know much about the rest of the family. Edward was in touch with Theodore before Theodore died in the early 80s but was unable to find any of his other brothers.

The parish names you have given me are interesting though, I can try to focus my search around those areas and possibly find something. Thank you for that!

Hi Chris,
Surname Rast sounds German, it also confirms some of the first names of your grandfather's siblings (Alfred, Ewald, Gustav, and Reinholdt). It may be a good idea to research evangelical churches. ???

Hi Barb,

Many thanks. I've found a place in Gostynin that may be able to help, I've asked one of my Polish friends to call them for me to see if they can find anything out.

Thanks for all your help!

Chris
