Post subject: East Prussia marriage record
I have a marriage record from Family Search in 1725 that only lists location as OstpreuBen, PreuBen
1725 Johann George Andermann spouse Susanna Justin
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:6FYD-8S26
Is there a way to determine village/town/church as well as whether or not this is still part of Poland or Russia today?
Note: unable to attach image of actual church document
thanks for your efforts,
Laurie

Hi Laurie,
Are you asking what village/town/church this microfilm represents? When you click to look at the image of the church book, it shows the FHL film number as 007672131, and if you search the Family History Catalog for that film number, it says it is for the church records of Katholische Kirche Bischdorf (Kr. Neumarkt).
Hope this is what you are asking.

Hi Sophia & Laurie,
I found this:
Sątopy-Samulewo (germ. Bischdorf) is a village in Warmia-Masuria.

Hi Laurie and Barb,
According to Meyer's Gazetteer, there are a lot of places called Bischdorf. The 6th one on this list appears to be yours, because it is in Neumarkt:
https://s.meyersgaz.org/search?search=Bischdorf
The problem is that this Neumarkt is in Schlesien, Prussia and the film notes from Family Search said the Neumarkt was in Ostpreussen (East Prussia). Is it an error on the part of Family Search?
Meyer's is listing two Bischdorfs in Ostpreussen.
Laurie, if you click on "Bischdorf 6)" then it takes you to a new page, where you are automatically on a tab called "Entry." Make sure to check out the other tabs, "Map" and "Ecclesiastical."
Best regards,
Sophia

Hi again,
This image from the first page of that Family Search microfilm would seem to suggest that it is the Bischdorf in Neumarkt in Schlesien:
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/3:1:3Q9M-C9RT-237C-5?i=2&cc=4110912
Notice the reference to Breslau, which is today's Wrocław in Poland. It appears that your Bischdorf is today's Święte, Poland.

Hi Sophia,
Absolutely correct what you write. There is a place with the same name in Silesia. The heading in the first post was "East Prussia marriage record", so I was mainly looking for a place in East Prussia. I did not check the microfilm.

Hi Barb,
This one is just an error on the part of the person who indexed the record for Family Search. The word "Ostpreussen" shows up in the link that Laurie gave:
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:6FYD-8S26
So naturally it made sense when Laurie posted the question, to ask about places in East Prussia. This is not the first error on Family Search. There are a lot of ship manifests of Poles from Galicia where the indexer has put "Galicia, Spain" which might really confuse someone. Having said that, this work is done by volunteers so we have to take that into account.
It was helpful to go to the original document, page back to the beginning of that church book, and see where it was from.
Best,
Sophia

Glad that you checked it out. Then I hope Laurie reads your message and gets the new location.
