Post subject: Family relatives location question - How far away?
When I'm looking for family relatives (in Poland), what is the most likely distance they will be found? If I see the same family name in another town miles away, but in the same prov. would they be related?? Would they have taken a train and moved to an entirely new area?

Most likely in the same parish, or perhaps bordering parish. Only if the name is rare can one assume there is a relationship. But my maternal surname has about 100 in Poland today. Yet in the family parish there were five families with that name, and only three were related.
My maternal grandfather's brother relocated about 1900, to a location about 60 km away, in the same province. My paternal grandfather relocated about 1900, from Galicia to Russian Poland, my guess a distance of less than 50 km.

Thanks, Henryk. I'm getting myself psyched-up to actually write to the parish and the prov.

Gerre, looking at your past messages you mentioned Markuszka, is this Maruszyna by chance? Is this where you are writing to? Dzieki Bill

My g'father's naturiz'n papers state Markuszka, which I found on a map of Gmina Osiek Jasielski. It is just south of Zaleze. Sooooo, I'm wondering if the church records would be in St John the Baptist Church. His wife, which he married in NY, is from Osiek, which may be Osiek Jasielski. I have a few more questions which I'll post tomorrow. Thanks

I could not find LDS records nor in the Polish State Archives. Your best bet is the Rzeszów Diocese Archives:

ARCHIWUM DIECEZJALNE ul. Zamkowa 4, 35-032 Rzeszów tel. 17 852 44 19
e-mail: [email protected]
Archiwum czynne w poniedziałki w godz. 9.00-13.00 i od 14.00-16.00.
Udostępnianie zbiorów po wcześniejszej konsultacji telefonicznej tel. 17 852 44 19
Dyrektor: Ks. dr Andrzej Motyka, EC, e-mail: [email protected]
Going through the parish is hit and miss, as the priests are unlikely to have time to search old records. but it is worth a try.

Wrote 2 letters to this parish never received an answer. I sent along a return address envelope with an IRC to make things easier for the priest, didn't help.
I am going to try the civil archive or diocesan archive.
Please post if you have any luck.

I did finally get an answer, shortly after I posted this note in the forum, however I'm not sure if he sent the correct information. It doesn't match with what I have, but I did get an answer so I sent a donation anyway.
