Wondering if anyone could answer my question here;

During research when reading over any marriage records I've found, it seems like any last name ending in a vowel is changed to a feminine version when listing the bride.
For example,
the bride is listed as Marianna Jagadzinska
her father is listed as Joannes Jagodzinski

Is this the common practice over there? And how does this effect my search? (Meaning, is this why I could never find anyone when searching maternal lineages??)

TIA!

Welcome to the Forum asteeber!

Yes, it is common practice over here Very Happy . What's more, it is Polish grammar rule. You should change endings of feminine to "a". To make things even more complicated when you would like to say about marriage (plural form) you should say Jagodzińscy Wink .

There are a little more rules applying to Polish, beautiful, however difficult language. I wrote a little more about it also here: http://forum.polishorigins.com/viewtopic.php?p=153#153 .

But there is also good news for researchers: the beginnings of surnames and places should stay unchanged, in your case it will always be Jagodzins- Smile
