Looking for meaning of my mother's name: CHELPA. She listed her birth place as Dublany, Galicia, Poland on her naturalization papers in 1944. Thanks for any help.

Welcome to the Forum John08,

I haven't found any mention about Chełpa or Chelpa surname in my sources. However, in our Polish Genealogical Society website genealodzy.pl I have found request for translation of a record from Latin into Polish where appears surname Chełpa and father of the newborn is from Dublany Exclamation (link to the post: http://www.genealodzy.pl/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&p=18024&highlight=che%B3pa#18024 ).

Details of this birth record:
Janina Łobodzińska born Ocrober 27 18??, babtized November 1, house no. 136; died April 2 1948 in Jarosław (death certificate no. 94/4);
Father : Karol Łobodziński shoemaker, son of Jan and Franciszka Chełpa born (father) January 28 1884 in Dublany district Sambor.
Mother: Zofia Śliwa (born 1885)- daughter of Kacper (farmer) and Barbara.

Author of the request is the genealodzy.pl forum member 'genek72'.

In 2002 there were 232 people using the surname Chełpa and 11 using the surname Chelpa living in Poland. Detailed map can be found here: https://nazwiska-polskie.pl/Che%C5%82pa
and here: https://nazwiska-polskie.pl/Chelpa .

Some Chlepa (CHEL/PA) was donator in 1587 of Arcybractwo Milosierdzia in Krakow.
Marcin Chelpa, 1775 has lawsuit by Jakub Przewlocki in Uscie (Dep.468, str.32)
