Post subject: Holocaust - Majdanek
Hi, my great-grandfather born near Wysokie Lubelskie at the age of 41 was imprisoned in Majdanek, it was the year 1942.
What I know that happened after is that he came back home and lived until 1968.
I suppose that he survived in the camp until 1944, year of the liberation, or maybe he escaped before, I still don't know.
I contacted the Majdanek Museum to know more informations about him, but they just gave me the informations that I already found on their database... And I still don't know why he was imprisoned, was he a jew? I don't know...
For me, as a young man, knowing that one of my close relatives suffered the atrocity of the holocaust and don't know almost anything about him is very difficult.
So, I really please you all:
Where can I find more informations about the Majdanek prisoners?
Do you know some websites or forum for these kind of infos?
Garbacz, Plenty of Catholics were imprisoned and killed by the Nazis too. Have you tried the International Tracing Service: http://www.its-arolsen.org/en/homepage/index.html
Have you seen this site that names people that have been victims of the Nazi oppression:
http://straty.pl/index.php/en/search-in-database
This site is a work in progress, and if your great-grandfather's name isn't there, it could be added. If you do find his name, click on it, and there will be more information.
