Post subject: Suggestions for finding grandparents village
Hello, I've been doing genealogy research on my paternal family for a couple of years now and I've had pretty good success but I feel like I've hit a wall.
On my father's birth certificate is listed his fathers home village as Elzbiecin, Poland. According to wikipedia, there are approximately 12 different locations for that village listed around Poland.
I have a copy of a 1930 census for my grandparents that lists their place of origin as Ciechanow, Poland. I also have found their Ellis Island ships manifest and there it states their last residence as Elzbiecin, Lomza, Russia.
On a hunch I an focusing on the village of Elzbiecin, Gimna Krasnosielc, Makow county in Masovia Vivodeship because of the following reasons. Because according to wikipedia, Ciechanow was the county seat until 1867, and also Lomza was historically part of Masovia but is now in Podlaskie vivodeship. Also Krasnosielc lies halfway between the two cities and that might be why my grandparents listed them.
I have tried searching in several online databases and LDS films from Ciechanow, but I can't seem to locate the family. I am thinking of contacting the state archives in Bialystok, is that my best option? Here are the names of importance-
Great grandfather - Franciszek R. Kozlowski and his wife Lmniilia ( Amelia) Zarnickia
Grandfather - Jozef Kozlowski born abt 1899 and his wife Stella ( Bronislawa ) Roslan born 1891 their daughter Helena born in Poland in 1910 the three immigrated June 21, 1911 to USA. SS Barbarossa.
Also Josef's brother John Kozlowski B. 1893 and sister Bernice B. 1894 ( Bronislawa ) immigrated at a later date. Jozef supposedly made two other trips but I can't find any record of that.
If someone has any suggestions as to a good source or any other directions I could take I would really appreciate it.
