I have a photograph of my mother holding a number in front of her during WW2. I know that she was taken into forced labour. Where can I research to see if I can trace her history during this time based on the photograph and number?

Hi Richard,

Here is a link to a site which contains info about those who suffered oppression during WWII: https://straty.pl/szukaj-osoby.php

Two of my maternal grandfather’s nephews were conscripted for forced labor and the site has info about them. They were sons of my grandfather’s younger brother and I remember my grandparents sending packages to them in the 1950s. A third nephew, the son of my grandfather’s sister was in the Polish Infantry when the war began. His unit held out until mid September when the Nazi air force bombed them which destroyed them as a cohesive fighting force. He was captured on September 17 and spent the next two years in Prisoner of War camps and then in February of 1942 was sent to a concentration camp and two weeks later was dead. All that info came from the records on the site. I don not believe that my grandfather (or his sister for that matter) ever learned what happened to him.

Wishing you success,

Dave

Hi, Richard
You don't say what your mother's name is, so I couldn't check this site.
Maybe you can find information about her here.

Hi,
If you want, I can contact Arolsen for you. I am reading this message now that I am looking for her.
"Contains information about KUZNIAK (further last names: SZACHCINSKA), STANISLAWA. Under certain circumstances, parts of the file are not displayed for data protection reasons. In such cases, please contact the Arolsen Archives".
Have you spoken to Arolsen before?
