I finally have copies of my grandfather's immigration documents from when he left Poland. My family has never known much about him or where he came from aside from just the fact that he was from Poland and he mentioned Galicia often. This is the closest I have been to discovering where he came from but I cannot decipher the handwriting so I am hoping someone may be able to help. It looks like 'jasienica' but there are a number of similar places in Poland I have found...jasiena, jasienna, jasienica.....if anyone can help I would be truly grateful!

Hi,

I read it as Jasienna (now Jasienna
984 osoby
woj. małopolskie
pow. nowosądecki
gmina Korzenna

Other options to what was then Galicia:
Jasienica
Jasienica
Jasienica Solna
Jasienica Sufczynska

Gilberto
Jasienica Zamkowa
Jasienna

Hi nydave1272,

I totally agree with Gilberto's first suggestion of "Jasienna" in gmina Korzenna. I have family in this area and that is the name of one local village. I also have a 5th Ggrandmother with the name of "Zajac" and I have seen others with this surname in the records.

If you click on the map it will enlarge and Korzenna is about in the center of the map and Jasienna is above Korzenna.

Please keep us posted on your search!
