Post subject: Polish State Archives on-line database: szukajwarchiwach.pl
It is happening right now. There is new version of szukajwarchiwach.pl portal, more friendly and modern at a first look. Many new scans added, about 1,24mln of them.. Some units are empty, which means you can search them and find records but not actual scans. I guess scans will be attached later. I like the quality of scans. Need to find now a way to download scans of parish of interest all by once.

Hello everyone,
With all the excitement about new online church books and other
vital records, you may not have noticed that the Polish archives
are also posting a lot of other scanned records that should be
interesting to genealogists.
For example, some town records from Kornik, near Poznan,
one of my ancestral towns, are now on line. Looking through the
wojt's books and council books I found entries showing when my
3-greats-grandfather, my 4-greats-grandfather, and my
5-greats-grandfather became burghers of the town; the deeds
for a half house owned by my 4-greats grandfather; and many other
interesting things.
How do I find these things?
Go to the web-site
http://www.szukajwarchiwach.pl/
Close the white pop-up with the title
"Bazy danych w archiwach panstwowych";
or "Databases in state archives"
by clicking on the grey X in the top right corner.
Click the Union Jack (or the German or Polish flag if you prefer),
Tick the box "only with scans/tylko ze skanami" below the search box,
Select the tab "Everything/Wszystko" above the search box
(instead of the tab "Vital records and civil registers/
Akta metrykalne i stanu cywilnego", which most instructions for
this site steer you to);
Type the place name you are interested in into the search box;
Click "Search/Szukaj"
See what comes up - there are lots of places that still have
nothing on line, it will probably take years for the online material
to catch up with the LDS microfilms, and even longer for the online
material to get anywhere close to what is available if you visit
an archive in Poland. But, you might get lucky, especially if you
have several places to try.
If you want a really impressive example of how much is online
for some cities, try doing a search for Lublin.
Hope this is useful,
Paul Rakow

Thanks everyone for letting me know about these records. Paul's instructions worked for me, and I have found my grandfather Jan Depa's 1893 baptismal record from Swilcza. My mom's cousin knew his father's name was Tomasz, and his mother's name was Agata Boczkaj, but now I know that Tomasz's father was Franciszek, and his mother's name was Agata Kornak. Agata Boczkaj's father was Jan, and her mother was Magdalena Cisek. I feel very fortunate, and I hope it won't be long before everyone can find new information from on online scan!

This comes from the Poland-Roots mailing list at RootsWeb:
Just when you think you are getting a handle on the various places to find
scanned church and civil records from Poland, someone points out another
one.
Those of you who have ancestors in those eastern areas of Poland that
became part
of the Ukraine after World War II may have been looking on jealously as
scanned records
from various religious faiths across Poland have been popping up at many
different websites.
Many genealogical records from the east were repatriated to Poland and are
kept in the
Archiwum Główne Akt Dawnych w Warszawie (AGAD) or the “Central Archives of
Historical
Records”. All of a sudden, we are learning that scans of church records
from the eastern
areas are online now. And so we have yet a different set of URL's to keep
track of.
INSTRUCTIONS
1. If one of the categories below interests you, click on the URL.
2. Then, in the left column, click the last item Inwentarz.
3. Up comes a very long list of items. If there are scanned records,
you will see a hyperlink named “galeria ze skanami”.
Roman Catholic Church, Archdiocese of Lwów 1604-1945
http://www.agad.gov.pl/inwentarze/KMLw301.xml
Evangelical Lutheran Church, Volhynia and elsewhere
http://www.agad.gov.pl/inwentarze/KsEA439x.xml
Greek Catholic Church in the Archdioceses of Lwów, Przemysl and
Stanisławów, years 1728-1943
http://www.agad.archiwa.gov.pl/pomoce/gr298.xml#id0x060af350 (no scans yet)
Jewish
http://www.agad.gov.pl/inwentarze/Mojz300x.xml
A similar condensed list, slightly longer, may be found at
http://www.agad.gov.pl/inwentarze/testy.html
The full list of archival items (in Polish) may be found at
http://www.agad.archiwa.gov.pl/pomoce/spisze.xml
Many thanks to Jan Textor in Denmark for alerting us at SGGEE to
the existence of the Lutheran records.
Feel free to repost this information on other lists.

Post subject: Some news from Polish Archives
Some news from Polish Archives and their online resources:
Polish State Archives have currently (23 June 2014) more than 11 589 600 scans available online!
On June 5 Polish Archives added another 1.3 million scans.
Here ia a brief summary of the recently added documents:
- The local branches from Kielce, Gorzów Wielkopolski, Pułtusk, Łomża joined the digitalisation project. Recently, they have added scans from several parishes, for example:
Czyżewo, Andrzejewo, Rajgród (State Archive from Łomża)
Kłobuck, Lubliniec (State Archive from Czestochowa)
Ciernie, Jędrzejów, Łukowa (State Archive branch from Kielce)
and many more…
- documentation of the concentration camps and the prisoner-of-war camps, for example: Buchenwald, Dachau, Mauthausen, Warsaw (prison on Al. Szucha). The documents include certificates, resolutions, appeals, newsletters, lists of prisoners, the letters from prisoners
- the unique documentation of the Jewish ghetto from Łódź
How to check if the desired parish records are available online?
Above in this thread you will find the instruction prepared by Paul (thank you Paul): http://forum.polishorigins.com/viewtopic.php?p=9683#9683
One more tip:
Scans are original and descriptions of search results on "Szukaj w archiwach" are only in Polish:
Księga urodzeń means Birth register
Księga małżeństw means Marriages register
Księga zgonów means Death register
Akta stanu cywilnego means Civil registers (all BMD records in one book)

Wishing you some interesting findings,
Aga

Does anyone know whether the records have been archived for the county of Maloposkie? The area I'm interested in is the village of Miedzyczerwienne (merged with Czerwienne in 1965). I believe the parish is Matki Bozej Czestochowskiej, Diocese is Krakowska, deanery is Czarny Dunajec. I've tried the search engine posted in this forum and don't get any results.

I believe there aren't any from Malopolska yet and my personal opinion is they probably won't show up very soon. You'll note that most of these towns haven't been filmed by the LDS church either. Not sure if Polish Archives records are civil records or church records... I went to the churches in my Malopolska towns of Rabka Zdroj and Nowy Targ to find my ancestors' records. ~PL

Thanks PL. I was going to make a trip to the nearest Family Research Center, but if they dont have them on microfilm it would probably be a trip wasted!

Well, you still need to double-check your towns on familysearch.org to make sure there are no filmed records. There were some records for a couple villages just east of Nowy Targ when I was looking 7 years ago. I probably should have said almost no records for Nowy Targ county instead of the broad area of Malopolska. I posted too quickly. ~PL

Im not sure how to go about checking films on familysearch.org. The only thing I've done there is searched by name, and I come up empty every time.

At the familysearch.org home page, choose Search which takes you to the Discover Your Family History page which opens at the Records tab (for searching indexed records). Other choices across the top on this page are Genealogies, then Catalog, then Books, then Wiki. Choose Catalog. This takes you to the default page for the Family History Library Catalog. It opens at Search: Places. You can start specific and then broaden your search if need be. Good luck. If you find a film, then you can register on the site, order the film to be delivered to your nearest Family History Center ($7 per film for 1 month rental, they do use PayPal), and then wait to be notified that it's available for you to use. Good luck. ~PL

PL and Michelle,
In addition - and if you are not sucessful through 'places' option - I would recomend you the 'key search' option, by typing the name of the village there.

Post subject: Question re the site
Just got on this site today. I'm attaching a page that I downloaded. I was wondering if there is a way to increase the size of the page prior to downloading. In this attachment I'm interested in the 1st (top) entry...which I believe to be Krasne No. 22 in Wigry parish. Also, am I right to assume that this record is in Russian.
Thanks,
Jamie

This is Cryllic. I have just been working in the Wizajny Parish records. I have found that starting in 1868, they changed over to cryllic from the Polish. What you need is a snipping tool, so that you can focus in on your one entry and enlarge it as much as will fit. You can then snip out only the portion that you want. I think that both windows and mac have a basic snipping tool - I am rusty on how to use. I use a program called SnagIt to do the same. Mike
