Hello
Does anyone have a map or know where a map is of the Parishes for Poland is???
Not a new one, one for about 1880 to 1910.

Maybe I could figure out where my people lived and get a parish for more info.

Thank you

Your question is very broad. Parish is very small unit. Besides in 1880-1910 Poland was divided. Please write me what places You know, I will try to help You.

Not sure if the link attached will help you.
Click on any Diocezja to have a list of its dekanats. (right side)
Click on any Dekanat to have a list of its parishes.

It is very feeble source (nothing personal Gilberto) Smile . F.e. Dekanat Gruudziadz 1 consists of 2 parishes on that site but in fact there are 6 parishes, Greater Poland was not made in generally. Maybe that would be beter http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kategoria:Polskie_dekanaty_katolickie enter to diecezja, and then to dekanat but it is hard to search when Polish is unknown.

Diane,

Does using Google translate help any? That's what I've used so far to get pages translated from Polish to English. It's not perfect, but it can help.

Hello
Sorry for not getting back to you but I bought a new laptop and have been having a ruff time learning how to use it.
Thank you very much for the website.
I will send it to my friend and see if she knows where any of her relatives were.

Again thank you

I don't have too much of a hard time with google translate. It is pretty good.

A book by Lidia Mullerowa entitled "Roman Catholic Parishes in the Polish People's Republic in 1984" is very helpful despite the fact that it was compiled in 1984. Many of these parishes have not changed since the early 1900's, and the book ontains very detailed maps
locating the parishes. It is available from the Polish Genealogical Society of America located in Chicago (pgsa.org).

Diane,

There is another book originally published in 1990 and no longer available in print but available on CD from the PGSA entitled The Latin Church in the Polish Commonwealth in 1772 by Stanislaw Litak. This work also has maps and gives locations for approximately 6,500 parishes and branch churches before the first partition of Poland. Perhaps this work together with the book recommended by Louise will serve your needs well.

When you locate parishes with the dioceses of contemporary Poland keep in mind that a fair number of those dioceses did not exist in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Also, it is a good idea to keep in mind that the boundaries of the dioceses during the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth changed in the early 19th century. Roman Catholic dioceses generally do not span national borders and as a result of the partitions the new borders which resulted from the Congress of Vienna in 1815 sometimes ran through the territory of an older diocese. Not long after the Congress of Vienna the Vatican redrew diocesan boundaries so that a diocese would not straddle boundaries between the territories controlled by the various partitioning powers.

Good luck in your search.
