Post subject: Wolnik (volnick)
HI:
I am doing my family tree and cannot find any info on my great grandfather ...it is my understanding from faamily that his surname was Wolnik...of course once over in America it changed to Volnick. Does anyone have any info on this surname?
Here's a link to the Moikrewni map of the distribution in Poland of the surname Wolnick https://nazwiska-polskie.pl/Wolnik The red locations have the most people with that name. You can mouse over each red and see what location it is or scroll down past the map to see the text with the top 10 locations for the name Wolnick. I'm sure others will speak to the etymology of the name/word.
Do you know when he came or where he settled in the US? ~PL
From what i found on Ancestory.com his name was Jan (John) Wolnik, born 1870, came to the US in 1894 he..was naturalized....i am somewhat sure he settled in Poughkeepsie, NY..in 1901 my Grandfather was born in NY. i am trying to find out if he( My Great grandfather) got married in Poland which i think he did..
Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
