I'm hoping I can get some guidance. I know his name and his birthdate and when he came to America and when he naturalized. But no papers: everythi says Galicia or Poland or Austria. No towns. His name is Maxim Wladika. He was born in 1859 but give or take a few years in Galicia. Also by with his parents. They lived there. But it's unkn what their name is. He left in 1886 and married In 1887 Mary Loretta Kosmann. They both naturalized in 1891. They lived in Mayfield PA. Near Plains and Wilkes-Barre. Thank you.

Hi Natalia!
Welcome to PolishOrigins

His wife, Mary Loretta Kosmann, was surely living in Poland.
In fact there are still some descendants ... http://www.moikrewni.pl/mapa/kompletny/kosmann.html
But also in the past there were many families in many different regions ... http://www.geneszukacz.genealodzy.pl/index.php?search_lastname=Kosmann&from_date=&to_date=&rpp1=&bdm=&url1=&w=&lang=pol&op=se

How is it possible that you know their marriage date but not town?
Usually the marriage certificates are the most detailed!

Phil

Natalia,

the correct polish spelling is Władyka.
check http://geneteka.genealodzy.pl/index.php?op=se&lang=pol
158 Wladyka in http://stevemorse.org/ellis2/ellisgold.html , filtered as austrian/galician/polish.
Mary's surname as Kausman, on her son marriage record:

Natalia...it might be a bit of a stretch, but in the past, I have found records I was looking for by looking at other people with the same (or similar) names. Sometimes it can provide a clue for further research. In your case, I did a quick search at familysearch.org and found a WWI draft registration card for a "Maksym Wladyka" born in 1887 in a town called Brazowa. While he was certainly not your Maxim, he did have a wife named Mary. He might have been a relative of your Maxim, and researching him might point you at the right locations in Poland. Good luck!

Following that path - 800 Władyka in today Poland
http://www.moikrewni.pl/mapa/kompletny/w%25C5%2582adyka.html
and the highest number of Władyka in ... Brzozów, in former Galicia, today podkarpackie
http://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brzoz%C3%B3w
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brzoz%C3%B3w

Natalia, you found it.

Best,
Elzbieta
