Post subject: Maluchnik, Lavndowsky, Gobosky, Krosky
I posted here before about my great grandparents. I have found who their parents are and now hit another dead end it seems. I am trying to find any info on Anton Maluchnik and Carolina Krosky who are the parents of my Great grandfather Stanley Maluchnik. And also any info on Frank Lavndowsky and Katie Gobosky who are the parents of my great grandmother Margaret. I was told proper polish names might actually be Kroska, Lewandowski, and Goboski. I believe Stanleys parents were most likely from Zembrus, Plock and I am not sure where Margarets were from. Margaret and Stanley lived in the Nassau NY area. Margaret was born March 10, 1897 and Stanley October 26, 1892. I am not sure if and when the parents immigrated or not. A search on familysearch brings up a couple of Frank and Katie Lewandowski/Lavnowskys, but I am not sure if or how to determine if any are mine.

Hi Lynn1982, here Tad1950
I read your message very carefully. It must be noted almost all family names and the name of the place, like many others after immigration to the U.S. 100 years ago, were changed phonetically, and they are for us like a trace to search the right ones. I've spent part last night, and this morning to check all names with Polish etymological works, so please find my help:
FAMILY NAMES
The main one is MALUCHNIK - and very fortunately your GGPa Stanley [in Polish Stanisław], and his father Anton [Antoni] preserved their family name very exactly. Polish etymology confirms: This old and traditional Polish surname MALUCHNIK is congominal in origin, and derived from the Polish language, name, and work "Mały" (a little) - noted in Poland from the year 1376, and/or from very old Polish name "Małomir".
I've analysed also other names given by you with the etymological works, crossing all names with the Surname Location in the present-day Poland basing on Polish censuses 1990/2002, here are the results giving also the correct names from Poland:
GGPa Stanley - Stanisław Maluchnik
GGGPa Anton - Antoni Maluchnik
GGGMa Carolina - Karolina Krosky - Kuskowski/Kuskowska [suffix -ska for female]
Frank - Franciszek Lewandowski
Katie - Katarzyna Gobosky/Goboski - Grabowski/Grabowska
FAMILY PLACE
This was also a challenge, as "Zembrus" preseved in the U.S. is not corretly spelled. After crossing all surnames location in Poland, and checking the etymology of the place names I do suppose your family cradle in Poland are:
In the 18/19th century - ZEMBRZUS - MOKRY GRUNT
in the past centuries - ZEMBRZUS WIELKI
Time to give you some weblinks, giving you chance to follow your invaluable search.
For Genealogical purposes, please note the name of the parish, where you can search your family the genealgical civil/parish records:
For this ZEMBRZUS - MOKRY GRUNT in the 18/19th century the parish was JANOWO
For this ZEMBRZUS WIELKI for the earlier centuries the parish was CZERNICE BOROWE (be careful, this is other province and voivodeship now, but both distanced to each other in abt 15 miles, and supposingly some families from ZEMBRZUS WIELKI settled the ZEMBRZUS - MOKRY GRUNT in the past centuries).
You can start collecting records with my PTG - Polish Genealogical Society database with this parish JANOWO from some years of the 19th century:
Births: http://www.geneteka.genealodzy.pl/index.php?op=gt&rid=B&search_lastname=Maluchnik&exac=1&from_date=&to_date=&w=14wm
Marriages: http://www.geneteka.genealodzy.pl/index.php?op=gt&rid=D&search_lastname=Maluchnik&exac=1&from_date=&to_date=&w=14wm
Deaths: http://www.geneteka.genealodzy.pl/index.php?op=gt&rid=S&search_lastname=Maluchnik&exac=1&from_date=&to_date=&w=14wm
For Epigenetics puroposes, please find the first info on your family ancestral home and land ZEMBRZUS - MOKRY GRUNT, basing on the Slownik Geograficzny Krolestwa Polskiego.... 1880-1902:
Zembrzus - Mokry Grunt [Zembrzus - The Moisted Land], the village located on the local river Orzyc, on the moisted valley, belonged to the gmina [administrative commune] Bugzy Ploskie, and to parish Janow (now spelled as Janowo), distanced 28 w. [wiorst] from the main local town Przasnysz. This Zembrzus - Mokry Grunt in the 1880 counted 41 homes, and 403 inhabitants, and in 1827 counted 16 homes, and 114 inhabitants - and we ca do suppose the one of this home belonged to your family Maluchnik. The next information must be collected by you for this new Epigenetics - I do suppose the future of the Family Health Medicine, thus, we must collect not only the family records, but also for example the specific nature, local traditions, history of the local diseases, etc.

Hi Tad1950. Thank you for so much information, it's even more then what I have asked for, I am very grateful! I have been going through it all. It is interesting Maluchnik has been the name the family has had for such a long time. It is also nice to know the location they came from. If there were only 41 homes there in 1880 then one must have been the home of my Maluchniks as you said. I don't suppose there are any censuses including that area? The Maluchnik's you sent me on those 3 links. I cannot pinpoint how exactly any are related. The Antoni Maluchnik born 1828 would be too old to be my Anthony's father I'd think. I do wonder if it could be his grandfather though. I have searched some on the corrected names you have given, but not sure if I can pinpoint any of those to mine either. I will keep searching. Oddly enough there is a Francika Lewandowski marrying a Grabowska in 1909, too late to be mine, but wonder if that could possibly be my Frank widowed and remarrying a kin of his wife.
