Post subject: Johann Gottlieb Quiram and Caroline Hinz Nest - Kcynia
I just found my great grandparent's wedding information from another website. They were married in 1874 in Kcynia, Bydgoszcz, Poland. At the time, this was part of the German Empire. They immigrated to the United States in 1889 and settled in Texas. I think they may have lived in Nakel because the ship's manifest has their town listed as "Na..." and then the page is torn. I think that is a close place.
They were Lutheran - am wondering if the closest church was located in Kcynia? Does anyone know or have a picture of a Lutheran church in either Kcynia or Nakel?
Thanks

Hi,
The Protestant Church was in the Dioceses of Szubin (as stated in http://www.pgsa.org/Towns/townsk.php#Kcynia)

I extracted the following information in a 2010 post on this webpage http://genforum.genealogy.com/germany/messages/56115.html
"They were from the city of NAKEL (pronounced: NAH-k'l), located in the District (in German: Kreis) of WIRSITZ, in the northeastern part of what was until 1918 the Prussian province of POSEN, the provincial capital of which was the city of POSEN (in Polish: POZNAN). The former Prussian province of Posen is part of Poland today, its German population expelled following World War II. NAKEL is now known by the Polish name NAKLO NAD NOTECIA, which translates as NAKEL ON THE NETZE, Nakel being located on the Netze River. The city's official Polish name today is this lengthier name to differentiate it from other towns in Poland called Naklo. WIRSITZ, the seat of the "Kreis" in which Nakel was located, is now known by the Polish name WYRZYSK.
Church records are THE primary source of family information in German genealogy. If you live near a Mormon Family History Center, you can obtain and view there on microfilm Nakel's Evangelical Lutheran church records covering the years 1799 to 1891."
If you feel sure Nakel is your town/village, you'll need to check the familysearch.org website to determine which microfilm reels to have sent to the Family History Center (staffed by church volunteers, so hours are often limited) closest to your location (not sure if you use the German name Nakel or the current Polish name). An earlier post today on PO said it now costs $8 per reel to borrow the film from the Family History Library in Salt Lake City (a small price to pay if your records are there). Good luck. ~PL

Thank you so much! I believe there is a Family History Center close to me in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. I also have one of my great grandfather's children listed as being born in Knachel in 1877. Do you think that is a poor spelling of Nakel?
