Lisa,

The name of city is written Dombrowitsa to accomodate Polish diacritics and Polish sound "c", in Polish should be Dąbrowica.
That is the end of easy part, because etymology of Dąbrowica is dąb = oak, and you have plenty, hundreds of toponyms based on it.

We have fantastic tools at http://mapire.eu/, superposition of old Austro-Hungarian maps on today Google
Click here, then make opacity at circa 50%
http://mapire.eu/en/map/hkf_75e/?zoom=7&lat=50.19266&lon=20.26095
Any place from Tychy West of Krakow to beyond Lwow.

In old geography book you have tens of Dąbrowica/e starting this page, much more than only former Austro-Hungary
http://dir.icm.edu.pl/Slownik_geograficzny/Tom_I/930

Few spotted in Austro-Hungary:

4) near Tanobrzeg
5) near Jaroslaw/Sieniawa
6) powiat Grodek (Lwow area)
7) near Szczucin
Page

you have Dąbrowińce powiat Lipowiec, krośnieński, Podkarpackie Voivodeship, Poland

In summary you have a name, but you need more to determine the place.

Best,
Elzbieta

Hi Lisa,
The surname “Wlass” appears to be an anglicized version of Vlasic, Wlaszczyk, Własiuk, etc.
The only U.S. document I could locate for Alex Wlass was the same WW I Draft Registration image that you submitted.
With more family information, perhaps we can help you locate additional U.S. records that will contain Alex’s original surname and where he was born. What were Alex’s wife and children’s names, when and where (approximately) were they born? Did the family remain in Elk County PA?
Best regards,
Norbert
