Post subject: Origin of Zubowicz
My Great Grandfather Julius Zubowicz was born December 15, 1867. He came to America in 1892 on the Scandia. His last place of residence says"Dolskin" of Poland/Russia(some documents says Russia and others say Poland? Any assitance on this place? I cannot locate it anywhere. I am assuming it is mispelled(like his surname was).I do know he spoke Polish and Russian.

Hi,
Your document is from the ship, in Hambourg, so it is in German.
I am quite sure the name of place is transformed, as Dolskin does not exist. Maybe "Dolsk in Russia"?
The sequence "dolsk" is not common, you have only one page in the old geography book
http://dir.icm.edu.pl/Slownik_geograficzny/Tom_II/103
At this stage "Russia" shall help you to determine which "Dolsk":
The first "Dolsk" is in powiat pinski, that is today Belarus ==> fits into Russia (Russian partition)
https://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pi%C5%84sk
The second is in powiat kowelski, that is today Ukraina ==> to be checked it it fits into Russia (Russian partition) or not
https://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Powiat_kowelski-- it is said that here Dolsk were part to gmina Turzysk
The third "Dolsk" is German, powiat sremski, it does not fit
https://pl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Powiat_%C5%9Bremski
On the next page you have Dolskie, I see river Stryj, that is today south Ukraina, was in Galicia (Austria), it does not fit

Sorry, but it is never straightforward.
Best,
Elzbieta
