michael,

for hillary birth file - what does it say in the column after Johan Schweigar (father)?

for maria josepha birth 1822 - what does it say in Johan Schweigar's column beneath his name, what does the column after his name say, and what does it say in the column after his mother's name (barbara shuster)?

for maria josepha birth 1821 - what does it say beneath Johan Schweigar's name?

for stephanie birth - what does it say beneath Johan Schweigar's name?

thanks for all the help. i didn't want to ask for full translations of these so ideally i'm just trying to see if there's any relevant info on each one

michael,

does the attached say Barbara's mother's name?

Does it say she was from Lagiewniki but was born in Zakrzewo?

It says her father was Michael Zalewski right?

Thanks!

Andrew

If you compare all these records, it seems as if the midwife Regina Rößler was the person, who filled in the forms. And it seems, she wasn’t sure – or consistent – in how to write the names of places and professions. Compare for example how the father’s birth place “Tutzing” is written in Stephanie’s or in Marie’s record.

Let’s first have a look at the column after the mother's name, i.e. the mother’s birth place. In Stephanie’s record it looks like “Pfrehn”, in Marie’s record like “Pferen”. With some guessing it might be “Pfehren” or “Pfohren” in what today is Baden-Wuerttemberg.

The form of the birth certificate was changed between 1824 and 1826. The older certificates provided the father’s status [“Stand”] beneath his name, the younger certificates had a separate column after the name providing the father’s status or profession [“Charakter oder Gewerb”]. Johan Schweiger – in Stephanie’s record he is called Johannes Babist [read “Baptist”] Schweirer – was “Guster” [Stephanie’s and Marie’s records] or “Küster” [Hillarie’s record], hence I assume what is meant in all cases is a (kind of) sexton. The rest of the entry provides the information where he worked: it was in the house of the city commander [“Stadtkommandant”] General von Epplen. It is written in different ways, but the information is the same in all records.

Regards,
Michael

Andrew,

does the attached say Barbara's mother's name? [No, it was unknown.]

Does it say she was from Lagiewniki but was born in Zakrzewo? [It’s the other way round: she was born in Lagiewniki und residing in Zakrzewo.]

It says her father was Michael Zalewski right? [Right.]

happy weekend michael

i've got another birth certificate and need some help

What is the word or name after the child's first two names John Baptist?

As we tried finding in the past, is there any more relevant information here about the father John Schweigar or the mother Barbara Schuster?

thanks so much.

Hello Andrew

I think I got the mother’s birth place: it’s Pfersee. It used to be a village West of Augsburg and was incorporated in 1911, so it’s today a part of Augsburg. You will find a map of the village in 1809 here:

https://www.bayerische-landesbibliothek-online.de/ortsblaetter/suche?id=2525

and another one from 1830 on Wikipedia (look for the German article on Pfersee).

Your questions:

What is the word or name after the child's first two names John Baptist? [It’s Hiliarius, like in the other record, too.]

Is the child's name Hilarius (male)? [Yes, it’s written Hiliarius and this is a male name.]

Please note: the family name is written “Schweiger” in all documents.

Best regards,
Michael

Thanks Michael

this is great to know, now i can search for her birth record. I know what you meant before how it was hard to figure out the spelling as Pfersee could be deceiving the way it is written.

also, I guess i've been misspelling (and the indexers too!) schweigar. i will update my files

I have more documents and questions but I've probably been working you too hard lately so i'll wait a bit to post. haha.

michael,

in the attached marriage of John Schweiger and Barbara Kaiser (very bottom marriage). I believe it says his parents John Schweiger and Barbara Schweiger are both deceased.

is there any other relevant information contained in this marriage? I don't care about Barbara Kaiser and her family. I do see it says Johns birthday in November of 1826. Any pertinent info listed for John or his parents?

I found one of their kids births with a different midwife so better handwriting!

Any important info on Anton Hillarius birth attached? I'm surprised most of these have the age of the wife Barbara but haven't seen it listed for John.

Thanks for your time and efforts

Andrew,

First, you’ll see a new way to write the family name: “Schwaiger”. That’s quite common in German names to use “ai” instead of “ei” like in Maier or Meier.

And yes, you are right regarding John and Barabara, they are both deceased.

John’s profession is given as “Herrschaftskutscher”, what might be translated as a coachman for a noble family. Looking at the birth certificate of Anton Hillarius, John’s profession is also “Kutscher” or coachman – the noble family is that of the city commander – and it seems, this was his profession in all the years we looked at.

The son’s profession is given as “Maschinenschlosser” or machine fitter. He was born on November 19, 1826. According to his birth certificate - you already know it - his name is Johannes Baptistus Hillirarus.

Best regards,
Michael
