Post subject: German Death Record Translation
Hi Michael,
Can you please look this death record over for me? It is the death record for Teodor Ostrowski.
Does the record mention anything about Teodor's spouse? Her name was Teofila Kurczewska.
What is Teodor's occupation?
I have the date of death and all other information on his parents (Stanislaw Ostrowski and Apolonia Mrowczynska).
Thank you for your time. Hope you are enjoying your day!
Warm Regards,
Trish

Hi Michael and Barbara,
I am attaching the birth record for Wladyslawa Ostrowska. She was born on 3 July 1883 in Gembitz (Gebice). Her parents are Teodor Ostrowski and Teofila Kurczewska (Note: Found spelling of surname as Karczewska also.)
Michael,
Does the birth record state that Teodor and Teofila are married? I never found a marriage record for Teodor and Teofila so I was wondering if the document verified they were married.
What is Teodor's occupation?
Barbara,
Is the notation on the bottom left about the death of Wladyslawa Ostrowska? Did Wladyslawa die 24 March 1957 in Trzemeszno? Or I am incorrect about this notation?
Thank you both so much for your help and your time. I really do appreciate it!
Warm Regards,
Trish

The wedding of Thomas and Josepha (Stasik) Garstkiewics occurred in November of 1882. In the marginal note, I see the year 1884.
Likewise, in the Dec 1904 BC of Marianna Walkowiak, I see the year 1906 in the marginal note.
Could you give me some idea of what these marginal notes are referencing? Thank you. wuness |
Hi wuness,
These notes are the result of a kind of quality management process, where the civil records were reviewed regarding their formal and content-wise correctness. Alterations required an administrative order and were added as notes.
In the marriage record, the family name of the groom’s father was missing. This was added two years later.
Marianna’s birth was recorded in 1904. According to the note added two years later, the notice giver Anton Walkowiak was the mother’s husband.
Best regards,
Michael

Hi Trish,
Theodor was a laborer [Arbeiter]. His wife or his marital status are not provided. (As Theodor died in a hospital and the notice giver was a nurse, he might not have not known this.)
Warm Regards,
Michael

Hi Trish,
Yes, according to this document Teofila was Teodor’s wife. Teodor was a mason (Maurer).

I was hoping you could answer some questions for me. In the civil birth notice for Agnes Wujek, there are marginal notes that confuse me. Firstly, can I assume that Agnes died in Srodka in 1998? Other names I see are Kornik and Klescsewo. Do you have any idea what they refer to? Finally, considering the moratorium on the public release of death records, how is it the this relatively recent death (26 years ago) is posted on her birth certificate? Thank you. wuness

Hi,
I think Michael will translate this for you.
Yes, Agnes died in Środka on July 18th, 1988. You will find her civil death record in the Civil Registry Office (USC) in Kleszczewo. Act No. 10/98. It is not often that such late deaths are entered.
She married in 1935, and her civil marriage record can be found in the Civil Registry Office (USC) Kórnik. Act No. 64/1935.
USC - Urząd Stanu Cywilnego
