Dear Kmichael8,

I am the owner of an old upright piano. The instrument needed tuning.
After opening the piano I have found two pieces of paper, with german inscriptions, stuck to the inside wall of the piano.
Would You be so kind and help me understand it?

Thank You so much,

Marcel.

Hello Marcel,

The first image provides the manufacturer of the piano: E. [probably Emil] Putzger in Lübeck, the street is Fischergrube No. 410, located in the historic center of the city. The two lines at the bottom are a [self-] recommendation: Recommends elegant pianos of solid design, fine full tone and precise varieties at cheapest prices with a guaranty of several years.

The second image provides information about the price and / or the purchase. The first line: price, purchase price, Thaler and the acronym RRR [I don’t know]. The second line: received on April 21, 1876 - obviously the price was paid this day and the deal signed with the signature in the third line which I would read as F.H. Stüve.

Hope this helps,
Michael

Hi Michael and Marcel,
Very interesting documents! Marcel, are you sure the second image is complete? In your photo, it looks like the paper was folded before it was stuck to the inside wall of the piano. There may be additional words on the paper.
Just curious,
Sophia

Can I assume that the statement "January 22nd, 1863 at 6 o’clock p.m. " is in error and should read "January 22nd, 1852 at 6 o’clock p.m. " ?

The quality of this scan is poor, so it’s more guessing than reading:

On September 4th, 1864 was baptized Albert Wilhelm Heinrich, born on August 25th at 10 o’clock a.m., son of Johann Kiper, [his profession is illegible] and Charlotte, born [her maiden name is illegible], the father residing in Gohra. [The names of the godparents are illegible].

Perhaps you could provide a scan with a higher resolution.
