Hi

I have in-laws that I'm researching...
Martin Wachowiak (1847 Pomerania) spouse, Maria Motuszewska of Prussia
son, Joseph Wachowiak, (1867-1905)
grandson, Martin Wachowiak (1894-1952) born in Wisconsin.

Thank you

Stephen Koszewski

Hi Stephen,
Can you specify what kind of help you need? And give us more information about Josef Wachowiak? Is 1867 his approximate birth date? Where was he born? Pomerania and Prusy is a large area.
Regards,

Barb

All I have are dates of birth for Martin (1847) and son Joseph (1867) Wachowiak and general location in Pomerania. This is from Ancestry.com I checked Geneteka but didn't find anything.

Thank you for your response.

Are these dates: 1847 and 1867 approximate dates or exact?

Hi Stephen,
There is a tree for Joseph Wachowiak on familysearch.org worth exploring. Shows born in 1867. Son Martin (1891-1952) https://www.familysearch.org/en/tree/pedigree/landscape/LL46-GJD

Click on view sources - https://www.familysearch.org/en/tree/person/sources/LL46-GJD
Look at the 1890 marriage record https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XR52-KJH?lang=en
shows Joseph's parents as Martin Wachowiak and Maria Matuszewska

Look at the 1900 census https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MMVR-GTX?lang=en
shows an 1880 immigration with pa - papers filed for naturalization
I take years on this with a grain of salt but there is an implication that he came over as a child with his parents

Milwaukee Historical Society has a search for naturalization records. for the early 1900's those records would have less details, but it may or may not show an immigration date https://milwaukeehistory.net/research/research-services-requests/naturalization-requests/

Look at findagrave.com There is a Marcin Wachowiak (1847-1999) buried in Saint Adalbert's Cemetary in Milwaukee
https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/197605973/marcin-wachowiak

It looks like St. Adalbert parish is still in existence - it may have records on your wife's Wachowiak family
https://www.stadalbertmke.org/

On Joseph's tree, click left arrow on son Martin to see his children
Also explore lots of good sources for Martin (1891-1952) https://www.familysearch.org/en/tree/person/sources/LL46-PKC

Good luck with this giving you some clues

Diane

Hi Stephen and Diane,

Here is the actual marriage record for Jozef (Joseph). It is showing the groom was born in Prussia.

Maybe you can find the Church they were married in and request the Church marriage record. Ask there is an exact name of the town Jozef was from.

Regards,
Trish

Hi All: It might be helpful to know that the records for most Milwaukee early churches (pre abt 1920) are available on Family Search at: https://www.familysearch.org/en/search/catalog/results?q.place=Milwaukee%2C%20Milwaukee%2C%20Wisconsin%2C%20United%20States

148 of them! I think they are listed in founding order.

St. Josaphat’s records appear to be at https://www.familysearch.org/en/search/catalog/670170 [Catholic Church. St. Josaphat Basilica (Milwaukee, Wisconsin)].

Hope this hepls,

jajan

Trish and All, you are welcome.

I am providing another link, in case you are not aware of it. This is for the Burial records of the Milwaukee area Catholic churches:. http://www.cemeteries.org/Genealogy-Search.htm .They have nice cemetery maps as well. This is essentially plot information.

Note that on the link above at https://www.familysearch.org/en/search/catalog/results?q.place=Milwaukee%2C%20Milwaukee%2C%20Wisconsin%2C%20United%20States, there is a cemeteries section that has the actual complete burial records for most of those cemeteries. These are different than the sacremental burial records that you will find in the church records. jajan.

Hi Jajan,
Thanks for the links. Don't you just love when a cemetery has searchable plot information!

Enjoy your day!
