Post subject: help with making sense of parish memeber list
Dear friends,
I am attaching a link to the list I found online of the Parish register of Mejszagola in the year 1840, which should contain my ancestors and their family members. It is a long list and is about 80 pages so I don't expect anyone to do the looking for me. What I'd like to know is, is how is it organized, and is it possible to find a family on this list? Or is the way it is organized too difficult to find individuals?

Hugh,
Column 1 lists the number of the person in sequence. Col. 2 give the name of the person and the name of that person's father. This column has two categories---males grouped together and then females grouped together. Col. 3 lists the age of the individual named in Col. 2. Col. 4 gives their status (peasant, noble heir, etc.). Col. 5 gives the place of residence.
It should be possible---in fact more than just possible---to locate both individuals and families on the list. I obviously didn't read the entire document and am not familiar with the names of the villages and the geography but here is an example of coordinating the list of males with the corresponding list of females. On page 12 Number 231 is Benedykt, the son of Jozef Bartoszewicz; age 56; a peasant; and then his place of residence. On the following page (13) is his wife found listed under number 198; the wife of Benedykt, Franciszka (i.e. her given name), daughter of Tadeusz; age 50; a peasant; and then the same place of residence as Benedykt.
I'm not sure how the numerical sequence in Col.1 was determined. My suggestion for finding the persons you want would be to look at Col. 5 for the place of residence. It appears that residents from a given village are grouped together. It many take a while to find what you want but it certainly appears very possible to do so.
Wishing you success,
Dave

Dave,
Thanks, I will certainly look through it very thoroughly. I just realized I have info that might miake this a much easier proposition. The info I have pertaining to my Mejszagola ancestors: 1. Anna Narkiewicz (alias Swirkowska) was born in Antonowo in 1848 (baptized in this parish) illegitimate daughter of Jozefa Narkiewicz (who in Anna's later marriage is referred to as Jozefata Narkiewicz) 2. Lithuanian Archives found an Anielia Jozefata Narkiewicz born in Elizabelinie in 1831 (they found no Jozefa Narkiewicz) daughter of Adam Narkiewicz and Jadwiga Giedrojc legally married.
I am almost certain the Aniela Jozefata is the same Jozefa who had a illegitimate daughter Anna in 1848 (her young age of 16-17 makes me think this even more). So we'll see what can be found.
also of note on pg 59 of the list under entry 1260 do you make out Adam son of Jozef Narkiewicz age 35??
Hugh
