Dear PO friends,

I have been blessed as all of us here are to have the excellent translations provided by folks like Elzbieta and Dave amongst many others. One unexpected result has been the variation in the surname of one of my ancestors Kunegunda Szymkiewicz (nee Various) :see below

On Son Franciszek Jozef's 1820 birth/baptism: -Bezarowiczowna

On Son Jozef Kajetan's 1823 birth/baptism: -Bazarowna

On Son Konstany Bonawentura's 1826 birth/baptism: -Bialozerowna

On daughter Karolina Elzbieta's 1829 birth/baptism:- Buzer

On Son Izydor's 1831 birth/baptism: - Urczyn

On her Husband Izydor's 1841 death record:- unknown!?! (oh boy)

On her own 1847 death record:- Bazar

On her Son Konstanty's 1859 marriage record:- Bulat

That's a lot of variations and all evidence points to the children all being hers #1. Name of spouse and father in all records is Izydor Szymkiewicz. #2 All records are from the same Szyrwinty parish church. #3 The death records of Izydor and Kunegunda all list surving children:Franciszek, Jozef, Konstanty, and Karolina *(Izydor not mentioned in records I am looking for his right now I assume he died sometime after his 1831 birth but before his fathers 1841 death)

So what says the PO community??

Hugh,

First of all you must get rid of suffixes, -owna being used to say "daughter of".
Once you do, you see another suffix -owicz, in Bezarowicz, which could be used to say "son of", her father was son of Bezar.

You may also deduce that her name was not easy for Polish ears.

At this stage you have 2 * Bazar, 1 * Buzar, 1 * Bezar, 1 * Bulat, 1 bad scribing or difficult deciphering Bialozer, 1 strange Urczyn (it is indeed Urczyn), 1 * Bulat.
Adding stats from today's names in today's Poland:
32 Buzar
http://www.moikrewni.pl/mapa/kompletny/buzar.html
52 Bazar
http://www.moikrewni.pl/mapa/kompletny/bazar.html
No Bezar
3 Bulat
http://www.moikrewni.pl/mapa/kompletny/bulat.html
No Bialozer
No Urczyn

That is what I see. Looking forward to other comments from PO.
Best,
Elzbieta
