Post subject: how to be sure it's your ancestor
I’m trying to find the marriage record for my 3x great grandparents and the birth records for a couple of their kids. August Gorski and Anna Kroll. Oldest boy Frank Gorski born June 2, 1879 in Marienburg, West Prussia, according to American records. I’m wondering if this is the birth record for Frank. I haven’t found anything in Marienburg but the next sibling was born in Katznase, Marienburg, West Prussia. That’s where I found this record. It lists a Franz August Kroll born June 2,1879, mother Anna, no father listed. Could this mean she was a single mother at the time or was the father just not listed? The only info I have for marriage record are census records which list their marriage year as either 1882, 1884, or 1879-1880.

Hi Abelcher,
You are probably correct that she was a single mother at the time. It would be useful to get a full translation of August Franz Kroll's birth record to see if that answers the question. Michael, who does the German translations here on the forum, will be more likely to see your request if you post it on the German translations thread. If you follow this link, scroll down to where it has a box for "quick reply" and simply re-post your images and your questions there:
