Hi and good day,

My parents came to Canada not long after WW2, but they left with almost no documents, which I understand were mostly destroyed in the Warsaw civil administration offices during the war. During their lifetimes they discussed little of their lives with me before their arrival in Canada. My father only had an affidavit of his birth that was created for him by his sister, which he used to gain acceptance to Canada.

Is there any way to find alternate sources of documents, official or otherwise, for my father? He was born in the village suburb of Pelcowizna, Warsaw under the name Peysach Inwentarz, son of Alter Inwentarz. His affidavit says he was born on 22 July 1924, but he was not certain of the birthyear and thought it might actually have been 1923 or 1922. His surname later became Zilberstejn or Zilberstajn after his father died, and his family home was on Rodzminsky Street in Pelcowizna. When the war started his sister took him far away to live, which is how the two survived.

My mother's birth certificate from another city did survive. Thank you if you can provide suggestions or other information.

Henry Z Wink

Hi Henry,
Welcome to the Forum!
Have you checked the Arolsen Archive? I see the surname Inwentarz / Inwentasz there. Maybe something helpful.

https://collections.arolsen-archives.org/de/search

Pelcowizna is located in the northeastern part of Warsaw, in the Praga-Północ district of Warsaw. It borders Białołęka, Targówek, and Golędzinów. It was once a manor farm founded by Józef Pelc.

This is also very useful place:
