My grandmother Paulina Fitt was born 6/26/1886 in Ludźmierz; immigrated to the USA and departed Germany on 3/22/1913-arriving in NYC on 4/1/1913 and settled in Old Forge, Pennsylvania. She died 3/2/1967 in Old Forge, PA. Her maiden name was Czaja. If you need any other information-I'd be happy to provide it.

I meant to say her mother's name was Agnes Czaja...not her maiden name.

Walt3075,
Sorry about the delay in my response. I really appreciate your adding your grandmother Paulina Fitt to the list of emigrants from Ludzmierz. It's good to see the list grow and always interesting to learn more about what became of our emigrant ancestors after arrival in the US. The ship manifest indicates that your grandmother Paulina's destination was to see her brother Frank Fitt in Old Forge, PA. If you could provide more information on her parents, husband, siblings, children etc., it would perhaps help one of our fellow researchers to connect to your ancestors. Thank you again.

Yes he is, I'm so glad, it is very unfortunate to hear about Mary, but I also believe he and Regina had two more stillborns.

Raphael,
Yes you are right. I found 10 children born to your great-grandparents between 1907 and 1927. Besides Mary, two more Czaja babies died after birth or were stillborn:

An (unnamed male) baby was born on 28 Oct 1916 in Chicago to Joseph Czaja and Regina Baran, died (or was stillborn) on 28 Oct 1916 in Chicago, and was buried the same day in Resurrection Cemetery.

Source: "Illinois Deaths and Stillbirths, 1916-1947," database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:N3CP-2QG : accessed 7 April 2016), Czaja, 28 Oct 1916; Public Board of Health, Archives, Springfield; FHL microfilm 1,983,619.

Another Mary Czaja was born 31 Mar 1918 in Chicago to Joseph Czaja and Regina Baran, died (or was stillborn) on 31 Mar 1918 in Chicago, and was buried on 02 Apr 1918 in Resurrection Cemetery.

Source: "Illinois Deaths and Stillbirths, 1916-1947," database, FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:N366-X6Y : accessed 7 April 2016), Mary Czaja, 31 Mar 1918; Public Board of Health, Archives, Springfield; FHL microfilm 1,852,589.

I also found information on your great-grandmother Regina Baran, b 1880 in Gronkow. Were her parents Jakub Baran, wife Lucja, born 1853? If so, your great-grandmother's mother Lucja 'Lucille' Baran immigrated to the US as well and lived with her daughter Rozalia Szczewczyk, 121, Hammond St., Passaic, New Jersey. Notes on immigration: 21 Nov 1926, New York, SS Lituania, sailing from Danzig; Age: 72; last permanent residence: Grankow, with son Stanislaw Baran, destination daughter Rozalia Szczewczyk, 121, Hammond St., Passaic, New Jersey. She lived with your great-grandparents in Chicago when the 1930 US Census was taken. She was 77 ys old at the time and widowed.

So if this correct, Jakub Baran and Lucja 'Lucille' N.N had the following children:

2. REGINA BARAN was born in 1880 in Gronkow, Galicia, Austria (now Poland). She married Jozef Czaja, son of Anna Czaja in 1906 in Chicago, Cook, Illinois, USA. He was born on 19 Jan 1880 in Ludzmierz, Galicia, Austria (now Poland).

3. ROZALIA BARAN was born on 09 Jan 1894 in Galicia, Austria (now Poland)(most likely in Gronkow). She died in Nov 1977 in Passaic, New Jersey, USA. She married FRANK SZCZEWCZYK OR SEFCHIK.

4. STANISLAW BARAN, lived in Gronkow in Nov 1926 when his mother emigrated to the US.

Yes that is true, it's lovely just to remember the great times with my granmother's siblings. Now yes I do know of Lucia and Jakub. Lucia's is also listed as Agnes as she was on her death certificate. It says her father is Joseph Kozial. I never heard of Rozalia and Stanislaw, how interesting. Did you get my private message concerning Ludźmierz and the cemetery?

Raphael,
Yes, I received your private message concerning Ludzmierz and the cemetery. I have not been to Ludzmierz (yet), but remember that Georgia mentioned that she had visited the Ludzmierz church and cemetery:
http://forum.polishorigins.com/viewtopic.php?t=1346
She may have taken pictures of the church and cemetery and may be able to tell you a little more about Ludzmierz.

Our member 'RomanTimes' sent me a private message quite a while ago referring to "SOME UPDATES ON LUDZMIERZ IMMIGRANTS TO THE US", and I simply must have overlooked it. Sorry about that. Here is the interesting information he sent me:

My great-grandmother was from LUDZMIERZ. She was also married there.
Her name was ROZALIA (JACHYMIAK) WAKSMUNDZKI
Her parents were FRANCISZEK & KATARZYNA (SOPIARZ) JACHYMIAK

My great-grandfather was from nearby ZASKALE.
His name was ANTONI WAKSMUNDZKI
His parents were WOJCIECH & TEKLA (MROZEK) WAKSMUNDZKI
His family may have originated in nearby WAKSMUND or OSTROWSKO

ANTONI & ROZALIA JACHYMIAK WAKSMUNDZKI immigrated to the US in 1899 via Breman Germany. They settled in Pennsylvania in the towns of Old Forge and then Taylor. (I am from Taylor.)

SEEKING:
- I have lineage of Antoni & Rozalia (Jachymiak) Waksmundzki in the US completd.
- I would be interested in knowing any additional connections in Poland to these families.
- I would be interested in knowing if any others connected to these families in Poland immigrated to the US.

I just came across this post today and found some information in it that confirms information I already hade.

Specifically, the record lists my Great-Grandmother, Wiktoria Sopiarz Szczęch, who returned to Poland for a visit in 1900 with her 2 young children:

Malancosz, Anna, Arrival: 08 Nov 1900, Age at Arrival: 1; Born: abt. 1899;
Malancosz, Kata (Katarzyna), Arrival: 08 Nov 1900; Age at Arrival: 2; Born: abt. 1898;
Malancosz, Wiktorya, Arrival: 08 Nov 1900; Age at Arrival: 26; Born abt. 1874;

The interesting mystery here is why she used her "house name" (for the Szczęch husband) which was Malancosz, and not her proper married surname of Szczęch.

Both her and her husband were from this area, she was from Ludźmierz and he was from nearby Krauszów

I am trying to find info on the family of siblings: Michael, Joseph, George, John and Charles GUZY of the parish Ludzimierz in Rogozoik, Bedzin, Silezia. They all emmigrated in the late 1800s to the Luzerne/DeLancy area of Pennsylvania USA. Born at that parish approx 1860's 1870s. I have the name of the father mentioned as John GUZY. No mention of the name of the mother. Any help in identifying this family would be greatly appreciated.
