Post subject: Lewandowski
Whole Poland's thoughts are with our football players now, so I decided to follow the trends and look for the origins of Lewandowski surname. Apart from our famous striker Robert Lewandowski there are many other Lewandowskis, as this is one of the most popular Polish surnames.
Lewandowski is from Polish lawenda, “plant with a strong smell used, among other things,
to make perfume”, “lavender (Lavandula)”
In 2002 there were 91 096 individuals using the surname Lewandowski living in Poland. Detailed map of the surname distribution can be found here: https://nazwiska-polskie.pl/Lewandowski .
In the old Poland there was a few noble families of Lewandowski:
Lewandowski coat of arms Dołęga in Poznań district in 1756
Lewandowski Jan nob. non pr. sc. (non preaciso scartabelatus) in 1790
Lewandowski coat of arms Niezgoda in Halicz district in 1783
Lewandowski coat of arms Prawdzic in Ruthenia in 1787
Lewandowski coat of arms Sas in Halicz district in 1782
