Post subject: Kosse/Kossow surname
Hi,
I've been researching my Great-great-grandfather Alexander Kosse. He was born in Vilnius, Lithuania but he moved to Riga, Latvia and there I was able to find his church marriage record and the baptismal records for his three children. Unfortunately they're all Russian, but in all 4 records they give his last name as "Kosse" followed by two words I can't read, followed by "Kosow" or "Kossowi". I'm confused why they appear to consistently list two last names for him. Does anybody have any idea why? I don't see anybody else in those church books listed with two last names like that.
I've attached a picture of his last name as it's written in his wedding record as well as the three baptism records of his children. I can also attach the entire record if that would be helpful. I was going to post it in the Russian translation thread but it looks as if theyre's quite a backlog.
