Post subject: Chwalkowski
Jim asked me in private message to tell him a little about meaning and origin of the surname Chwalkowski
Below is what I found.
Chwalkowski, or more often Chwałkowski (with Polish 'ł' - pronounced like English 'w') Chwal-: from ancient Polish names such as Chwalimir, Chwalisław with the root chwała - glory, pride. Also from places names such as Chwałkowo.
In 19th century there were following noble families:
Chwałkowski coat of arms Odrowąż from Chwałków, Poznań region (from year 1534)
Chwałkowski coat of arms Prus from Chwałków, Kraków region (from year 1404)
Chwałkowski coat of arms Wczele from Chwałków, Wielkopolska (Greater Poland) region (from year 1584)
